I've been playing a little bit of Stud 8 or Better the past few days, and I think this may possibly be the fishiest game on the internet. I don't think a lot of the players even understand this game. Some play it just like Stud high, and others don't seem to have any clue what's going on.
Look at this hand, for example. Why in the world would this guy be calling me down here? My board suggests numerous straights, flushes, and made lows, and all he has is a gutshot for an 8 high straight and rough 8-7 low. On 4th street, he calls a bet with 10 high, a bricked three flush and no low draw, and then proceeds to call down in a situation where he looks to potentially be drawing dead in both directions.

Here's another. This guy hits basically two of his worst possible cards on 4th and 5th street, and then still continues to chase this almost worthless hand on a big betting round. This one really baffles me.
(For what it's worth, I maybe should've folded the river, but I called partly just to see what he was calling me with.)

This one is also classic. He raises with (8 5) 6 on 3rd street, bricks on 4th, but still proceeds to chase a backdoor rough 8 when possibly drawing almost dead for low anyways.

Hard to compete with 5 card draw for free money. You can never have a losing day in that game. It's that sick.

Tis true, I have played up to 3/6 and Ive only encounter a few players that were roughly compentant, but even, those guys are generally weak tight and somewhat easy to read or as readable as 7 stud 8/B can get.

I've been curious about the different variants - enjoying Omaha Hi/Lo in particular. The stud games seem intimidating to me since I feel like I should be calculating a lot of odds quickly due to the large amount of information on the table. For instance, when I'm on a set and I'm trying to scan around and see who might have a straight or flush draw and if this guy has 3 hearts showing how many other hearts are on the table so what are his odds... ow my head...
So, dsaxton, do you feel like you're needing to do that? Is it that other people aren't? Or am I overcomplicating things?
|
|
Note: new guy and very open to constructive criticism, so go ahead and weigh in! I'm here to learn.

Really? Never tried that one online, but they have it at pokerroom, where all my money currently sits.
I also nominate O8

I like stud 8/B over O/8 because you never get quarter or get 3/4. Its scoop or 1/2 and I kind of like it that way.
