Preflop: Hero is CO with , .
4 folds, [color=#CC3333]Hero raises????????

Similar to a post I made a little while ago about small/med pocket pairs. Is this an auto raise assuming standard micro opponents in blinds.
1. Get a seat to their right
2. Steal blinds at will
3. ...
4. Profit

This is a raise for me unless:

a) BB is a particularly tricky player
b) BU is likely to cold-call / 3bet
c) My table image is terrible

It's a bit like a small pp hand. You either want lots of opponents where you can get paid off if you hit a big hand or you want one opponent where you can win UI if necessary.

You need to get some reads on your opponents. Get their cold caling, folding to steal stats. Pokertracker is what $50 or summin'? That's like 10 bucks Canadian these days...

This almost isn't even a steal. You figure to have the best hand, and A-x suited is also reasonably playable postflop in this situation.

From the CO seat this is a pretty standard raise. From Middle position it's more marginal, since the chance of someone with position on us 3betting is higher and very disastrous.
Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

What about the phenomenon that many pro's describe as the Bunching Factor?

It's a steal because if the flop doesnt' fit your hand, you pretty much can't continue.
The older I get, the more I start wondering; Just what in the hell is going on here?

I don't think that's what's being referred to here. Even if you completely whiff, you're still going to win the pot almost every time the other guy doesn't flop anything either.

wow.. what stakes do you play at? even at 3/6 I can't get the other guy to fold when he whiffs.

Then keep betting your ace high for value.

* semi-grunch *

Standard micro opponents in the blinds aren't going to fold to a steal attempt. If you have reads that the blinds are tight, then this is a steal attempt. If they're passive, then you're fairly safe against getting 3-bet so you hope you're betting for value. If they're LAG then you don't want to be playing this OOP...and switch seats if you can.
Oh, no! Not another learning experience!
