Hi everybody,
This is my first post, though I should mention that I have read these forums for several months. I started playing Texas Holdém early these year, and I was brand new to poker. I began playing in a local no-limit cashgame (for small amounts, blinds around 0.25-0.50$). Naturally, being all but experienced I was a loser at first. But it didn't take long before i started play break-even poker, then slightly winning poker and eventually I started crushing this homegame.
I always been of the analytical kind and I soon purchased books, read articles on the internet and so on. My internet poker career started out at the prima network, and this have been "home" for me ever since. Of course I had my ups and downs, and being exclusively a No Limit player I experienced my fair share of swings. I have played No Limit up to 3-6 $ on a regular basis, but today I play mostly 1-2 $, mainly because I cashed out almost two thirds of my bankroll.
Recently I purchased a brilliant poker book, Small Stakes Hold´em written by Ed Miller, Sklansky and Malmuth. I have never before considered playing Limit but after reading this book I was hooked. So, inspired by SSH I have been thinking, maybe I should take a shot at Limit Holdem? I really feel that I need a break from No Limit to experience something else, and Limit feels just right. The problem is that I have no idea were to start out, at wich limit I should begin and so on.
I would like to try out another site/network aside from Prima, and I would like to know wich sites to look after for Limit Holdem action. Also I need advice about what kind of limits that might suit me. Remember; I am a decently strong No Limit player but have no experience in Limit. My bankroll is a little over 2000 $ but since Im new, maybe I should play a little "under" my bankroll? Any solid advice whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.

Great story... and limit poker is a lot of fun to give a transition to.
The average recommend bankroll requirements are to be 200-300 BB, so you have a roll suited for all forms of limit up to 5-10 (but with the swings of 5/10, that is highly not recommended). I'd recommend the 1-2 limit games at partypoker to see why people like limit so much (and also to look into bonus whoring @ PP, so even if you are breaking even while learning the game, you can make money with the bonuses)
One question to ask before starting, since it was stated in your post, but why are you sick of NL? You might want to start reading and maybe play some other games; 7 card stud, 7 card stud hi/low, omaha pl and omaha hi/low. Might want to try some 25 PL or the micro games and see how you enjoy that as well. I find when sick of NL or any type of hold-em to give other games a try and mix it up and find how profitable that can be as well.

Thank you for your advice,
I heard others saying Party is good as well, so I think I go with your advice and try it out. 1-2 $ sounds good, even if I will get severly beaten my br might allow me to stay in til' in better shape
Im not really that sick of NL, I think Holdem is a fantastic game. However, I have been In a great downswing lately, and the swings in NL are nasty. I might as well look into the mentioned games as well, but as for now I thought Limit would be a nice thing to try out.

Be prepared for some nasty swings in limit as well... but its good to mix it up. I'm in a limit downswing, so I decided to dabble in short handed NL where my style works a little better.
Check out the posts in the "online poker" section of the forum... you will find tons of info on how to bonus whore party... add that with your br and solid knowledge of the game and it should be a good limit lesson... and post tons of hands here, we'll provide good responses

I say skip the 1-2 party and go to the party 2-4. Lower rake being the main reason.

Is the 2-4 $ at Party much tougher than the 1-2 $? If it is just a little tougher, but compensated by the rake issue then maybe I should.

just so you know, limit is actually a higher variance game than NL. in NL, once you lose, you know right away, cuz you have to reload when someone sucks out on you and takes your stack. for limit, you bleed your chips slowly away, and when you tally up the totals at the end of the session, then you'll find out exactly how much you won or lost.
some people think limit is lower variance, i thought it was like this at first. but then people pointed out to me that the winrate to standard deviation ratio is worse with limit, so relative to how much you're making, the swings are higher.

Not really, just different; in my limited experience at $1-2 it plays more unpredictably than $2-4. It's a good idea to start with $2-4. Even for a limit beginner you will at least break even at first with basic poker knowledge, although you will see a wide range of abilities and will get the variance swings described in prior posts.
