So I'd like to start playing LHE and try to be good at it. Where do I begin?

I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.

Yeeehaw lets open this can of worms.
A) Whats you bankroll?
B) Whats your poker skill (youre an NL guy, right?)
In general we always suggest the lowest limits possible, and going from there. You can't really go wrong that way.
Post lots of hands. Visit us on ventrilo and ask lots of questions.
Oh, learn full ring before you learn six handed.

My bankroll is around $350. Skill, I'm not very good obviously, but I'm not a *total* fish I guess. I understand a lot of basic ideas, but I'm not much past playing with only my cards in mind.
My cycle has been pretty much to beat microlimits NL ring then to lose a good portion of it either trying out SNGs or moving up in limits a little too early.
I started out playing NL ring because that's what was popular, but LHE appeals to me a lot more. I've read most of SSH for entertainment -- got it cheap from a friend -- but I haven't really applied myself towards it yet or anything. I want to learn to play well, and I've been told this is the book to start with.
As far as a plan of what to play, from what I've read here and *around*, I should probably get a lot of hands in at a lower limit than $0.50/1 until I can beat that, and then progress up, picking up bonuses and rakeback along the way. Is this reasonable?

With a $350 bankroll you are rolled for $0.50/$1.00, so you can start out there. However, if you find that you are not winning there is no shame in dropping down. All of us have at some point or another (or multiple points, in my case...)
Do NOT move up limits too early. This is a GUARENTEED bankroll killer. You HAVE to stop that. HAVE to.
SSH is the LHE bible. You WILL read it. You WILL study it.
Yes, play .50/1, get every bonus you can find, and you'll find your bankroll increasing very quickly.
Again, ask questions, ask questions, ask questions.

Yes, I'm not going to move up early anymore. I know better now, and I've learned from that experience.
Okay, I'm going to start studying tonight and shop around and decide on a good bonus to start with and get my account set up (hopefully somewhere I can use PT).
Thank you very much.

www.bonuswhores.com is the best site I am aware of for bonuses. If someone else knows of one, please chime in, but I do believe these guys are the cream of the crop..
Good job on keeping the bankroll requirements in check. You'd be surprised how many people go bust just because they don't know (or choose to ignore) the 300 bet rule.
A wise man (soupie.) once told me the five rules of poker. Number one was play within your bankroll. Its number one for a reason.
Oh, and spoon, lets work to get those strikes taken away, OK? I officially have moderator powers here, so I'm going to keep an eye out for you. Play nice, ok?
