To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

On the flop you have a gutshot, a really dirty over and backdoor flush draw. Lets say 6 outs with 5 to the nuts (unless the board pairs) with the 2 big streets to come.

Pot has $30 - rake in it before the flop action.

Lets factor in a 3rd raise because your call doesn't close the action, exposing you to a potential 3-bet + cap. So we're putting in $9 to win $57 - rake + implied odds. Yeah, the backdoor flush draw makes this a call..

I've never understood the "dirty over" idea, that people should fear someone with AT/AK when you have a AQ etc... I just don't see it very often.
take your ego out of the equation and judge the situation dispassionately

Also consider that QJ makes a straight if you hit your Ace. When there are lots of broadway cards on the board multi-way one pair often isn't good. I consider the out dirty because it might make us a best hand but there is a strong chance we catch second best.

true, there are more obvious "dirty boards" i look for, and can fold to a raise if I catch a hand but get re-raised, but some can be pretty hidden

On the Party skins this happens more often then you'd like to know.I ran into two AQo while holding AJo.I had raised preflop in LP presuming only one person had limped(found out two had limped. On flop check to me I bet two call.Turn clown leads.I raise.Second cold calls clown calls.River checks around they show AQo and split the pot.I lose yay.
