1- Icheckraise the turn
2- I checkraise the flop (or 3 bet preflop)

I understand the idea here...
I just hate going to showdown.
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

Against a known Tight-aggressive-passive with probably little blind stealing ability, why make someone fold when you may be ahead here?

1, Check raising in this situation other than the flop is only going to get you more money in the pot when you are behind and less when you ahead. If he has a pair in this situation he isn't folding but will fold without a pair. Since you have a pair and are out of position, you have no need to try and steal this pot, especially when you may be ahead.

2, This is poorly played in my opinion. You were trying to be too cute on all three street. I think you missed a check/raise on the turn when fanatic checked behind (which in most cases is correct if he doesnt have an Ace). Against a normal person you three bet preflop and you run with that ace as much as you can. I hate being cute on blind defenses because in some instances the stealers will have anything and you are forced to go to showdown. Why check/raise the flop when you are probably WAY ahead in this situation and if the Button is like most blind stealers he'll continue to fire if he is checked to.

In the first hand, you want to go to showdown as cheaply as possible. In the second hand you want to go to showdown with as much of this stealers money in the pot as possible.

I like to check call sometimes into a bluffer, then donk bet the river.
take your ego out of the equation and judge the situation dispassionately

I considered it, but he knows I'm very capable of this very obvious bluff.

Still 3-bet here if you think the SB is a calling station? With the third guy in I was less inclined to build a pot and tip my range of hands to the TAgg.

Yeah, I was going to check/raise the turn. In the prior hand PFanatic fired all 3 chambers, so I figured I would draw the turn bet. When he checked behind and the J hit I considered his range both to play like that and call a river bet, so I figured check/call was a pretty good line.

My guess is....

Hand 1: Pfanatic aka stinkybeaver had JJ

Hand 2: Stinkybeaver had J8.

Hand 1: I was expecting a river chekraise but figured that you've would have donked me had you had an A.

Hand 2: My button raise with J8 was a bit too much but I drew lucky on that river.

edit: results were backwards
nice river bet + suck-out fish

Why? I know he's a FTR type and plays TAgg style, yet will likely take an shot at me at some point. Probably also over-play good starting hands and misses river bets. He knows I get out of line in selective spots. Also, we're just starting to build a history with each other, so I'm looking ot showdown a bit. Neither one of us is on our default game.
