My first ever play at $9-$18 B&M yesterday.

my main question about these hands is whether it was ok to wait the turn to pop the villain or was i likely to get more money in the pot even if i raised the flop. basically is my line of play right ??

Hero is on Seat 1.
Seat 8 (VillainA) and Seat 9 (VillainB) to my immediate right are aggressive Maniacs (i have position on both of them).

Hand 1: Hero is AKo in BB. VillainA is Button

i wanted to wait till the turn to raise, but by the turn i was happy to see the card and knew villainA will bet again and might get an overcall. so waited till the river.

Preflop:MP1 calls, VillainA raises, Hero 3 bets, MP1 calls, VillainA calls.

Flop: A-4-9 rainbow
MP1 checks, VillainA bets, Hero calls

Turn: A-4-9-3
VillainA bets, Hero calls

River: A-4-9-3-10
VillainA bets, Hero raises, VillainA calls
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Hand 2: Hero is AKo in the Button.

my thinking on the flop was to immediately raise the turn. I hit my hand and wanted to get paid off by a worse hand. against only 2 players, i have less chance to get outdrawn and overcard is not a scary card.

MP1 calls, MP2 calls, VillainB raises, Hero 3 bets, MP1 calls (all in), Mp2 calls, VillainB calls.

Flop: K-5-9 2 hearts on board. Hero has no heart.
MP2 bets, VillainB raises, Hero calls

Turn: K-5-9-3 no flush completed
MP2 bets, VillainB calls, Hero raises, MP2 bets, VillainB calls

River: K-5-9-2-3
MP2 checks, VillainB checks, Hero bets, MP2 calls.

Hero wins.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hand 3: Hero is 7-7 in the button.

my first mix up play . if i see 2 overcards, i go away on flop. i only stay if i flop a set or oesd.
however, after the hand i realised i played it way wrong. VillainB had a very weak Ace. A2. He might have checkraised me to see where he was at if i bet the flop and i could get everyone for 2 bets if i smoothcall the raise. VillainB is very aggro and he is to my immediate right.

UTG calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, VillainB calls, Hero raises, UTG calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, VillainB calls

Flop: A-7-4 (2 suit board)
everyone checks.

Turn: A-7-4-10 (i want to raise, but after VillainB's bet i cant as it shuts out everyone)
VillainB bets, Hero calls, UTG calls, MP2 calls

River: A-7-4-10-A
VillainB bets, Hero raises, VillainB calls.

Hero wins, VillainB shows A2.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hand 4: Hero is 6-6 in BB

put VillainB in steal attempt. My only stone cold bluff for the night
Preflop: everyone folds to SB (VillainB), VillainB raises, Hero 3 bets, VillainB calls.

Flop: K-Q-10
VillainB checks, Hero bets, VillainB folds.

hand 3: you're more likely to get more money if you bet the flop. someone wants that flush draw on the flop, make them pay for it.

I almost never check an Axx board after raising pre-flop. If I don't bet when I have it, I can't expect them to fold when I don't.

that was no stone cold bluff you had a pair against only the small blind and you probably had him beat on the flop also. I think you played all the hands fine

Why are you playing 9/18?
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

Hi Demi.

I am not playing it. I just played it saturday as the lines for all other games were bad and just wanted to take a shot at the game.

I intend to play maybe 1 night a week at that game and rest of the time build my bankroll further up by playing $4-$8.

But i do appreciate your concern and i know where you are coming from. Believe me, before I decide to move up permanently to $9-$18 i will consult my FTR brothers .

(Note: i do have 300 BB for $9-$18 too, but still want to play $4-$8 most of the days of the week, and occasional $6-$12).

$4-$8 is my main bread and butter game though ...

$9-18.. those are interesting limits, lol.

At my local casinos we only have 3/6 kill and 10/20 (not sure if it's a kill or not), and the occasional 4/8 dealer's choice or half hold'em, half Omaha.

Are there really that many maniacs at the higher live limit? I've had some ugly success at the donkey bingo 3/6 game (7+ to a flop usually). It's not even fun most of the time since I actually play tight and usually get drawn out on. There have been nights where I drop $120 without winning a single pot. Then occasionally I finish up $200-300 just because I am catching cards and people will play anything.

I am itching to play that higher limit game, but online I've only really ventured as high as 3/6 with just decent success (good success at 2/4). I also don't have a specific live bankroll, just an online one (which, number-wise, is enough to play 10-20).

Any thoughts?
Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

Korn.
There are plenty of people on this forum who can give you excellent advice on what limits you can play online based on your skill. I can only comment on live.

If you can beat $2-$4 live, you can pretty much crush the games like $15-$30 live or $9-$18 live in my casino (if you are rolled for that)
