Pre-flop: (5 players) Hero is SB with 4 A
UTG folds, CO calls, Button folds, Hero calls, BB checks.

Flop: 7 A T (3SB, 3 players)
Hero bets, BB folds, CO raises, Hero 3-bets, CO calls.

Turn: J (4.5BB, 2 players)
Hero bets, CO raises, Hero calls.

River: 5 (8.5BB, 2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets, Hero folds.
Uncalled bets: 1BB returned to CO.

Results:
Final pot: 8.5BB
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

Hand 1: I still peel one off on the river. You're probably beat but getting like 9.5-1 I at least want to see what he is open limping. Also, it might work for your image if they look at the hand and see you (correctly) jamming on the flop with your 'marginal' hand.

Hand 2: I bet this flop and would continue to bet the turn, which would give you odds to call the turn bet. I can see how you cant call the turn 2 cold though.

Jeff - in hand 1 - wouldn't it be better to check/call then bet/call? I will often make this call as you said to see what my opp is open-limping. But without a read I don't have the balls to fire again on the river.
