I joined an O8 hi/lo tourney by accident (for about 90FPPs, I have about 1500), being a complete noob I tried to pick it up and play the best I could, well 387 people started and we are down to the final 48 and I'm chip leader with 10k of chips.

And the inevitable happens and with the size of the blinds I manage to bum out of the tourney over the next 5-10 hands not sure how much peeps would have been paid for the final table but the last nine also went on to a 300k garenteed tourney. I did enjoy it though and I might play again its an interesting aspect chasing the low

I watched the tail end of the O8 hi/lo on ESPN tonite. What exactly has to happen for there to be a qualifying low hand?

You need 5 cards under 9, none of the same rank. Since you can only use two of your hole cards, you need the board to have 3 cards of different ranks that are 8 or below.

So you can have A23K in your hole cards for example, and a board of 87KT. You're assured the nut low hand if a A-6 hits, but otherwise no low hand will qualify.

Plus what makes the game complicated is trying to read if someone is betting huge on the high hand or low hand (or both ).

Its tough.

But it was a lot of fun, I think i lost as the last 50 players were actually competent, my low hands i was betting heavily were split pots or not the winning low hand

I might read up some strat for it, I was being reasonably tight with starting hands, looking for a pair or two low cards. It was funny to see the noobs moaning when the hand they thought they had, didn't qualify due to using 3 hole cards.

Yeah, I played one where one guy always played hands when he had trips in his hole cards, haha.

I may be more selective than you in that game. I look for hands with two suits with a high card in each suit, or a pair and two real low cards, etc.

I played a little today at a Omaha high/low table today, and I got one crazy hand where the river gave me 4 pairs! Each of my hole cards had a matching card on the board.

Yes yes, OH GOD yes! If you can get a wheel, you are golden. Pray your high holds up and kiss your low cards.
I don't know what they have to say
It makes no difference anyway.
Whatever it is...
I'm against it.

I had an ace in the hole the other day with an AAx flop and checked it to the end to win T60. I was waiting to pair any other hole card to use 2 cards hehe i'd forgot about using high cards.

I'm an O8 noob, but i'm slowly improving...

Last night I played at a tournament over at a friends house. While we were waiting for everyone to show up, we started dealing out a few Omaha hands.

On one hand, someone had the flush, someone else had the straight and the last person proudly exclaimed, "quads!" and turned over 3 of a kind in his hand, the 4th was on the board.

I told him he was a little off. He cursed a lot. I guess he had never gotten quads before. He still hasn't.

We also played a few hands of Razz, that's where I could shine. For some reason, the low cards just loved me last night. It carried over into the holdem tournament.

You know that saying about NLHE "It takes a minute to learn, a lifetime to master" To me, that really seems more applicable to Omaha, especially H/L. I have read on another forum that once you truely learn Omaha, you can pick your starting hands and the game becomes more predictable than NLHE. I clearly have a long way to go in this game. With the turn and river dramatically changing the possible nut hands, on EVERY hand. You really have no clue what the other players are betting at: a made hand, nut flush draw, nut low draw???? and then the turn completely changes what you think they have.... I am sssslllooowwwlllyyy learning it though.

My worst ever pockets were 4 Qs, yes all 4 of them in my hand. I was pissed and asked to change the game to 5 draw. The other was the KQJT of spades, a four card straight flush in my hand, absolutely disgusting.
Is that guy still part of the forum??
