I have been playing 3-6 limit at my local casino and have been doing fairly well, but I was wondering at what limits does the skill levels change? at my casino the limits start at 3-6 then 6-12, 10-20 and finally 15-30. The 3-6 game is just horrible bad players everywhere which is good but also sometimes frustrating, and assuming your a winning player how long would it take to move up these limits to make it to 15-30? Thanks for any replies.

It depends.

It's quite possible that 10/20 is often a tougher game than the 15/30 at your cardroom. The 6-12 game could even be really terrible some days as the +1 game tends to attract the more aware players with smaller budgets.

I remember a 6-12 game I played in where the first orbit was 2-3 to a flop and blind wars. I raised something like KQo PF, TT cold-called with position and popped me on a boring flop. After that hand I left. The only mistake I saw being made was the blinds pretty much playing any 2 cards, but that doesn't make for beating $3 rake + tip + jackpot.

On other days that game was great and had plenty of action.

Play well. Play good games you can beat and afford to play in. Don't define youself as a 10/20 player. If the 10/20 sucks tonight, then find a good game at lower stakes and slum it up a bit.

my local b&m has the following LHE games: 4/8, 5/10, 10/20, 15/30 and 20/40. The 4/8 is a crapfest at times and is usually the house's rake monster. The 5/10 game is when the game play drastically changes. You have your standard pool of people who chase bad draws, but not so many that you'll never beat each of them.
