I'm thinking it was probably wrong to slowplay this hand since there is a reasonable chance with 2 loose players and the big blind that someone flopped an open ended straight draw. Should I have raised on the flop?

EDIT: I wrote this just before I went to bed at about 4am and just realised how stupid my comment is about being worried about an open ended straight draw!

Should I have called preflop?

Player5 is a very loose player with a 63 VP$IP. player4 has a 41 VP$IP. player2 is a tight player.

You got about as much value as humanly possible out of this hand. With the nut straight on a raggy rainbow board you should definitely slowplay on the flop.

Hero defined his hand very clearly here. LEARN THIS PATTERN. Looking for players going for over-calls before making thier move can save you a lot of money. I would put you on at worst 2 pair. Probably flopped straight or poorly played set.

Thanks for the replies. So say that nobody bet the flop, would it be a mistake for me to check and give everyone a free card if I thought I could get more money that way? The only thing I'd really be worried about is giving someone a flush draw on the turn.

its never okay to check this flop, but given the way you played it it worked out well. I really don't like the first call on the turn and should have gone right into raise mode. But, you still earned pretty much teh maximum here and I cant complain.

I say that when you have the nuts you must almost always bet. Otherwise you're missing value from the hands that would play with you anyway.

In spots like this I tend to bet out and raise up the cheap streets where I'm more likely to get a weaker hand to give me action. However, the aggressor in this hand is acting before you and you have a chance for lots of over-calls mostly drawing dead so the weak line isn't bad. It probably doesn't matter much how you play this.

Just beware that anyone with pretty good hand reading skills has you pegged once you 3-bet the turn. However, almost no one that plays at this level is that aware.
