I would call 1BB

Neither opponent raised post-flop or turn, which you think they would had if they had Ax (a likely holding).

looking at 2 checks ahead of him, he could be trying to by it. I think it's worth 1BB to call.

Hi Hyper

Just wondering what the upside is in betting with the intent to fold to a raise here?

That may very likely cost him 1BB, while not getting to see if his straight holds up. Whereas he can pay 1BB with a call and be virtually assured of seeing whether it holds up.

Why is betting better in this situation?

For me calling would be 1st choice, folding would be 2nd, and betting would be last.

Thanks Hyper

i like betting because
1) you keep control of the hand
2) if you get raised, it's obvious you're beat

on such a low board it is MUCH more likely they were on flush draws, and not a straight draw, or a 2.

MP1 can't have a 2 or else he woulda raised the turn.

the only likely hand out there is an ace. but since the ace is suited with the 4 there can't be a flush draw out there, making the pair of aces unlikely (assuming your players don't suck so much they play any ace rag). bigger aces would likely raise the flop.

another possibility is a low pocket pair. but they won't raise you because they fear the ace.

Thanks Hyper

Very helpful. I'll rethink how I look at similar situations.

Thx again
