cap PF

as played, call flop, pop a blank/pair the board turn
if coordinated turn, call and hope the board pairs

Before you say cap pre-flop, shouldn't you want to have some reads on Villain's 3-betting range? Pocket 8's is far from an automatic cap on the tables I play at-- some players are only 3-betting with AA or KK and a number of other players are only 3-betting with hands that either beat 88 or are at best a coinflip.

sorry for the unconstructive post.

So, i'll explain a bit my thoughts on this.

I dont believe you need reads to cap here. Imo, you need reads NOT to cap here. You do have position, will have the initiative, and are holding a top 10 holdem hand in a 6max game (Full ring would be different).

Also, there is a limper there who called the 3bet (very dead money). You dont always have the best hand here, but you will clearly win this pot more than your share 3ways. Clear raise for value, imo.

Postflop issues will be a different story, and against a total rock, i may (very seldom) just call.

Stox's 3betting range against a btn raise:

22+, A3o+, K9o+, A2s+, K7s+, Q9s+, JTs

stove it again and consider this a tight range, i 3bet wider here.

oh, and considering YOUR 3bet range, it is still a profitable cap, since your EX-SD value is +++ because of position AND initiative
