I raised preflop because I figure I have the best hand, might as well push my edge a bit. The flop fell and I was ready to jam the check button as fast as I could... but I figure the other 2 would think I had a monster for raising then checking. I tend to see others play AA/KK like this (raise preflop, check/raise flop). The donks at Stars 1/2 were likely to pay me off with any marginal holding in this hand... Play them fast I say!
Was my stop and go a good idea? I didn't pay attention to stack sizes until he was all in, so assume he had money instead of being able to go all in.

If youre calling the flop, youre check/raising the turn.

Standard, but why?
What does a checkraise tell our opponent?
what does a donkbet likely accomplish?

To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

I think in this example a checkraise and a donkbet says the same thing. "I have a boat." If villain was not about to be allin, it is highly likely that this hand would not have even developed past the flop. Without a T, a 5, or an overpair, no one in their right mind is continuing post flop.
Generally, a checkraise says, "My hand is better than yours, and i don't really care what yours is" whereas a donkbet says, "I improved, but not to the point where I can show strength."
So yes, in this case, the 5 might donkbet here. But we know villain doesnt have a T and so there is absolutely nothing he can have that warrants a raise here. He's simply tilting away his last $4 or so.
Checkraise this every other time.

Bah. I dunno. I see merit in donkbetting here, but I think you'll get folded to far too often.
On the other hand
I would play this way if I was villain as well. Id raise flop and check through for the free river card.
Its hard to get paid with with quads.

It's always read-dependant isn't it? I think you played it perfectly for your situation. You want to milk these hands for all they're worth right? You can't always blame yourself if it just turns out they're not worth much to your opps.

In this case I don't want to get fancy enough to make him think too much. Maybe just fancy enough to piss him off, if it seems possible. If you're going to check-rasise at all, and he's got money, what about a min-raise if you think there's a real chance that opp is gonna take the bait and see it as a weak probe? If you can't depend on him to act after that or with a check alone, the only other thing I can think of is leading into him on early streets to feign a bluff, which is sort of where you're coming from with playing it fast, and might be what you guys are talking about with "donk bets." Obviously you want to be as convincingly weak as you can. For some opps I think this does mean playing fast. Others, well...
