Hi everybody!

This is a long thread.

The story is this; I’ve been trying to clear a bonus at Empire Poker. 10x Reload bonus, so I put in $300 and started playing. And lost. So I slept, and the next day I resolved to do my best, and if I were still to lose I’d dig through my hand history. They are hands #1.1 to 1.8

A little bit about me: I started playing poker about 2 months ago, basically just chasing bonuses around. I started with 0.5/1, and now I play 1/2 or 0.5/1 depending on what is convenient for bonus clearing. I have had success at Paradise Poker, Poker Stars, Prima Poker, Party/Empire deposit bonuses, Party 7x reload. I started with $50 and I now have $7500; most of it from Casino Whoring which is my strong suit. But now I’ve feel I’ve hit a speed bump.

I would be so incredibly grateful if some of the many talented poker players on this forum with much more skill than me could give me some advice. I have included 20 hands, not to have them all analyzed (wonderful if you did, but too onerous), but so you might glance through them and tell me some of my obvious deficiencies that I would need to fix (or perhaps tell me my play’s not THAT bad, and I was just unlucky? Wishful thinking!)

I can’t offer much in return for your precious time, except my sincerest thanks. But if in exchange for your analysis, you may want to PM me with rakebacks/referrals, or want advice on the most up-to-date casino whoring information, or even get me to whore a site for you, I will try my very best.

That all said, here are the hands…

Didn't look at all of them, but some are seriously horrible. Cold calling a raise from MP1 w/A4s and calling a capped flop from BB w/K8o really spring to mind. Also calling down in one of the first hands /w AQo and calling the river bet as well even though you had ace high is horrible.

I'd really suggest moving down to 0.5/1 until you get the hang of it.
As for when you returned to Empire and resolved to play more aggressively: Aggressive is one thing, loose is another, and random aggression is awful.

Hand 2.5 is a great example of knowing when to slowdown. You have major resistance right there. Taking AA a little too far/strong like that in limit can be your downfall... When given the notion to slow down (capped 2 streets), take the 3rd choice to slow down.

Poker is a fun game. Did you have fun playing those hands? Can you afford to lose and have fun every now and then at those stakes?

KoRnholio will become famous soon enough
It looks like you're playing your draws/bluffs way too hard. If you raised preflop, miss the flop but make a continuation bet anyways and get 2 callers on a board that doesn't show many likely draws, it's usually best to check the turn instead of continuing to fire away blindly.

Also, with a middle pair on a board full of overcards such as hand 1.4 where you had 77 and the board came AQx, I'd be very inclined to throw it away instead of calling and hoping for a 2-outer on the turn.
Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

For you, Tyson, Soupie and Me. Poker is a negative sum game. Once I really started digging into why people play I began making an effort to do my best for others to enjoy themselves at my tables or at the very least try not to ruin the fun for them.

100NL table

I have a tight rep, but have been opening it up.

I have about $100 and raise the $2/$3 blinds to 2 $5 chips with AK. $50 stack pushes, I call. He flips KQ and says "cool, send me home, I'm tired." He's sort of disappointed when a Q flops and holds. I shrug, grin a little and pay him off.

We clearly aren't playing for the same reason.
