I was playing Limit Hold'em today, and I'm still not sure whether I played this hand correctly even though I won the pot.

This was on EmpirePoker. I started off with pocket 8s. Usually I don't always play pockets this low, but since I was the last to act I decided to (there were 4 other callers). Flop came out 7,7,7. I now had a full house, and everyone checked to me. I decided to bet, to prevent someone with a card higher than 8 from pairing up. After I bet, everyone folded after spending about 20 seconds each thinking. I'm still wondering if it was a smart thing to do or would people usually not fold to me like this?

I'll admit I'm not a very good player when it comes to medium pocket pairs, but I think with that many limpers and you on the button (yes?) it's an ok move. Your flop bet is good, don't worry about it.

The preflop limp is totally standard, in fact limping 22 here is standard. It sounds like you are too tight, 88 is not a low pocket pair and should show a modest profit. I strongly advise you to read the SSH section on low and middle pocket pairs preflop and to play accordingly.

Good flop bet. Giving a free card here is suicidal as so many turn cards could give someone a higher boat. Even if only two of your 4 opponents fold your chances of winning the pot have significantly increased.

This guy seriously needs more gamble.

It's ok to bet/raise when you *probably* have the best hand...

seems like a pretty easy standard bet to me. everyone is probably drawing to 6 outs (which most are probably sharing the same outs) against you.

you should add all of the pocket pairs under 9 to your arsenal in late position for a limp.

sets are strong hands.
