This is a hypothetical hand. In the real hand MP1 called my bet on the flop, but what would have been the correct move if he had raised. I guess if he raises I could put him on either 88 or 99 and only call his raise.

Party Poker 0.15/0.30 Hold'em (7 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx

Preflop: Hero is SB with 9, 8.
UTG calls, MP1 calls, 1 fold, CO calls, Button calls, Hero completes, BB checks.

Flop: (6 SB) 9, 8, A (6 players)
Hero bets, BB folds, UTG calls, MP1 raises, CO folds, Button folds, Hero....

I three bet, he could very well be pumping his OESD or TPTK and I dont want to give him any free cards if I go for a turn check/raise. It all depends on your opponent.

3 bet the flop. I would put him on Aces before a set on the raise. If he caps you should still call it down though. 10's-K's and an agressive A,Q, A,K probably cap here too.
