PokerStars Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (9 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com
Preflop: Hero is Button with J , J
1 fold, UTG+1 calls, 2 folds, MP3 calls, CO calls, Hero raises, 1 fold, BB calls, UTG+1 calls, MP3 calls, CO calls
This raise is pretty standard here...a few notes on players:
UTG+1= 71% vpip
MP3=53% vpip
CO=33$vpip
Flop: (10.4 SB) K , A , 10 (5 players)
BB checks, UTG+1 checks, MP3 checks, CO checks, Hero bets, BB calls, UTG+1 calls, 1 fold, CO calls
Flop kind of sucks, but it's checked around and when I bet, nobody check raises...I also have the gutshot for the nut str8. I'm also thinking, with this bet, is that I want info for a small bet. This board hits a lot of tight players...It'll miss a lot of loose players (which their vpip's show them to be). I may still be good here.
Turn: (7.2 BB) A (4 players)
BB checks, UTG+1 checks, CO checks, Hero bets, BB calls, UTG+1 calls, CO calls
Str8 weakness on the flop. Am I getting suckered in? I hate a check here because these are such loose players. Had these players been tighter, then yeah, I check...those numbers convinced me that there is a good chance I'm still ahead.
River: (11.2 BB) K (4 players)
BB bets, 2 folds, Hero calls
This river counterfeits my Jacks...and that sucks...Had it been checked to me I'd checked behind everytime. Anybody who was staying with TPWK or second pair just hit the boat. When BB bets, I know I'm beat. Had any other player called I'd folded (probably)...With the pot odds, I gotta make a crying call figuring I only need to be good here 1 of 12 times to be profitable.
Total pot: $6.60 (13.2 BB) | Rake: $0.30
Results:
Hero had J , J (two pair, Aces and Kings).
BB had 5 , 10 (two pair, Aces and Kings).
Outcome: Hero won $6.30
I posted results to show why we don't fold hands in big pots. I've called in similar situations and lost several times...this time covers the next 11 times I do it .
Some of my plays are questionable here. Had the table or my opponents been tighter, I wouldn't have played it this way. I'm not looking for comments about how I played the hand, I'm posting as an example of why we should make those crying calls when pot odds give us good reason.
