I had him on a middle pair. What do you do in this spot?

PokerStars 0.50/1.00 Hold'em (8 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is UTG with A, Q.
Hero raises, 5 folds, SB calls, 1 fold.

Flop: (5 SB) 7, 8, K (2 players)
SB bets, Hero raises, SB calls.

Turn: (4.50 BB) 6 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks.

River: (4.50 BB) Q (2 players)
SB bets, Hero ???
Superb play sir...I always call 20% of my stack off with a gutshot draw. Excuse me while I race for my wallet.

I'll usually fold on the flop when I get resistance like that. They are betting into you - you were the PFR'r.

Sometimes I will make the flop raise like you did though. I don't think it's any good unless you are willing to put 1 more bet in on the turn. He showed weakness with the call of your raise on the flop, then checking to you on the turn. Finish the move off. If he calls, then check behind on the river.

Just one way to play it. Don't play this same situation the same eveyrtime. Be prepared to follow up a flop bluff with a bluff on the turn.

Yeah I do like to mix it up as well. And you're right a turn lead probably would have been a better play with his gaybet/call. Hmmm. Gotta look into this type of play more.

I'd call the river.

The flop play is no good if SB is tight and/or passive, though. If SB is loose (would call an EP raise with 98s for example) and aggressive (would lead his MPMK into a possible TPTK) , then it's OK.

well I do have a read of mid pair on him. he's a bit of a LP and I know that I own him post flop. I was just wondering if a raise or if a call was sufficient here. I called and won. But I was wondering what you guys thought of the play. I'm about to move up and was wondering what you guys thought.

Thanks for the input

if he is loose passive and is betting into you, then fold, he has the nuts.

you mean he's loose aggressive??

big difference between the two.

i dont like the overcard to your queen on the flop and being bet into.

but a free card worked in your favor, so bite the bullet call the river raise and hope he was pushing his mid or low pair.

I like your play. Done it many times, won more than my fair share too.
