Hi guys,
I was at the B&M yesterday to play 2$-4$ limit and got assigned a table. the table had a lot of tight passive players but I was sandwiched between 1 Aggressive to my left and 1 Lagg to my right. I requested a table change after 5 hands and went to another table I have been following while waiting.
This table had 5-6 calling stations. there were at least 5 people going to the flop (outside the blinds). I prefer these sort of tables. Yes the AA-JJ gets cracked more than its share, AK-AQ are in trouble all the time. but I like to see cheap flops (still playing tight) and count the pot and make the correct decisions chasing my OESD, 4 flush..etc. In these tables, with the amount of preflop money, its correct to go after gutshots time to time.
Is this setting me up to be a poor player for higher limits. I would like to get your opinion and if its setting me up for a bad habit i would like to stop it. I have read SSH a few times and follow it (always counting pots and making decisions based on the pot size).
One play that I never ever do I did yesterday.
Hero is 8-8 in UTG+1.
Preflop: UTG calls, Hero calls, MP1 raises, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, CO calls, Button calls, SB calls, BB calls, UTG calls, UTG+1 calls, Hero calls.
Flop (16 SB): A-Q-3 (suit not important)
UTG checks, Hero checks, MP1 bets, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, CO calls, Button calls, SB calls, BB calls, UTG calls, hero calls
Turn (12 bb): A-Q-3-8
Hero takes the lead and gets called by 5 players on the turn and 3 players on the river.
here i knew that i was chasing a 24: 1 but the odds were there especially I know MP1 tendencies (raising with suited connectors, Ax etc). and I would not be posting it and folding my turn if the 8 didnt hit. i always play "no set no bet" if there are 2 overcards or even if 1 overcard (A or K).
is this all setting me up to be a fish in the future ?
I dont like tables where there is a lot of preflop raising going on. I like to be one of the only or the only other player who is raising in the table. I like 5-6 people inthe hand preflop (except when I have AA-JJ or AK ). Am I turning into a fish !! ?
Does anyone else have similar favorite table selection ?
