This question popped up when I asked myself if I was playing too tight folding AJo against a raise in position. How do you play ATo or AJo when facing a raise preflop? I tend to fold mine because I fear domination. Against a raise and a reraise I fold without hesitation, but one raise makes me wonder.

It sounds like you are playing them right, though it does depend on the original raiser and your positions. For example, I'm going to 3-bet a maniac who raised from middle position when I have AJo on the button. However, It's an easy easy fold when a rock raises UTG and I have AJo in middle position.

At 2/4 most of the maniacs go bust so it's down to the passive calling stations/fish or sharks. Most of the time, someone who's raising knows what they're doing because the stations open limp AK or other power hands

If it's the HJ/CO raising, I have position and he's a sane player with an aggro opening standard there, I will 3-bet hands like AJ/KQ/ATs/99/88 maybe AT/77.

Some questions to ask yourself:

o Which player raised, what position? What's your read on the raiser? How wide is their possible range of raising hands? Does this player have a history of steal attempts? How positionally aware is their play? What's their image of me and my blind play?

o Are there any limpers in addition to the raiser? If I did re-raise do I have a legitimate chance to get the pot heads up? In other words what's the liklihood that you can successfully make an isolation play with position?

o How many players remain to act after you? Do you have any reads that might indicate that they intend to enter the pot too? This is often over-looked consideration, but could very easily make the difference between folding and raising.
