My friend recently had this situation happen.

He has AcQc and raises pf in early/mid position

Flop is heads up - Jc 8s 7c
Opp checks, Friend bets.

Turn - Ah
Opp checks, Friend bets, Opp raises.

He asked me whether or not he should 3bet in lieu of drawing to the nuts with TPGK... I didn't have a straight answer for him so I wanna know what you all think.

The fact that he was check-called on the flop and check-raised on the turn would leave me to believe that TP probably isn't good. He would likely be 3-betting with the worst hand and a 3-bet also leaves him open to a world of hurt if his opponent wants to put in a fourth bet. I would probably call with the nut flush draw and likely fold the river to a sizeable bet if I missed.
TheXianti: (Triptanes) why are you not a thinking person?

It doesn't really matter -- call or raise. Its mostly a Clint Eastwood situation.. "Do you feel lucky punk? Do you?"

If we threebet here and he does not cap, and the river bricks, we're checking behind on the river. This will cost us the exact same as simply calling the turn and calling the river.

Threebetting and having him just call is the ideal situation for us, as it allows us to win the most and lose the least -- however, getting capped here would bite.

Do you feel lucky, punk?

I figured it came down to Dirty Harry.

I came to the conclusion he's better off 3betting the flop with TP + Flush Draw and doing so on the turn was gambling just a bit much.

What's your opponent's raising standard? Would he raise Ax here? Bluff?

Against an aggressive opponent I like calling and raising the river improved. You win an extra bet against a bluff (if he follows through) and can get in an extra bet when you suck out.

Would be cold call a worse Ace hand than AQ? c/r the turn with it? If so, then the 3-bet sounds nice. Then again, could he laydown top pair with a weak or lukewarm kicker to your 3-bet? If he's on 3-outs or less we really don't have to protect our hand.
