Hi Guys,
I am faced with a similar decision time after time. I would like your advice on whether i am doing it right or wrong (although i suspect I am very wrong).

Here it goes.

I raise preflop (out of position or in position) with 99 -----> QQ. Flop is a paired board but all undercards. I bet the flop, 1-2 people call. I bet the undercard turn. 1 person calls.

River is a higher card....say K or A. I check, they check, i take down the pot.

am i missing a lot of bets this way by checking the river.

the logic i use is "well they put me on a good hand since i raised preflop. They called 2 bets (one on flop, one on turn)" on a paired board. So when the overcard gets on the river, i am not betting because what are the odds that a worse hand will call me here. If they were not slowplaying trips, their overcard surely got there !!

please help. Would you value bet the river here against 1-2 opponents. What if you are raised on teh river (typical B&M scenario of slowplayed trips)...do you call to look them up ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Against your typical player, this is a value bet. Most players that have been calling all along with a pair will look you up. A lower pocket pair will look you up. Many people with A-high will look you up.

If you are raised, you usually have to call. It will be a bluff often enough to be profitable. Sometimes it will be a 'slowplaying lower overpair'. People often call down on a draw then decide they have to bluff to win the pot.

Against only 1 or 2 opponents, an overcard is much more likely to miss your opponents than to hit them, and you must value bet here.

Do not make this play agasint 2 strong opponents or opponents who will not call the river without top pair.

Bet the river, but if a tight, passive player raises you, you are likely beaten and should consider folding depending upon the pot size. Also, watch the other players when the river card comes. If they look at the river card and look at their chips, they hit the overcard.
