inside straight draw that is.

If i recall correctly if you have an inside straight draw on the flop you are 5.5:1 to catch it by the river and 10.x:1 to catch it by the turn. x is some digit after the decimal as i dont remember exact number.

Now my question is this, lets say I have A-9 and the flop is J-Q-K. So I have an inside straight draw. Lets say I have to call 0.5$ bet to a 3$ pot. so I am getting about 6:1 odds and I would be correct to call that bet by the calculation.

Now my question is this, the 5.5:1 assumes that I WILL see 2 cards in the future. But most of the times it happens that I will quit if i dont get the 10 on the turn and there is little action. So should i use the 10:1 odds number meaning that only if the pot is 5$ or more then i call that 0.5$ on the flop.

is it logical thinking ?

using the 2 card formula will make you overestimate your hand strength. using the 1 card forumla makes you underestimate.

you need to take into account the different between drawing on the flop, and drawing on the turn.

the flop has much better implied odds, because the later streets are double the size in bets. so you can draw for 4 outters with roughly 8:1 odds instead of 10:1.

on the turn you need more like 9:1 to draw.

basically, a lot of money in the pot, because it's not worth it to chase most of the time
take your ego out of the equation and judge the situation dispassionately

Consider that in the example given quite often you'll split the pot with another Ax if you hit. Ask any Omaha HiLow player just how much fun drawing to half a pot is...
