I have only 23 hands on the player, hes running 17.39/5/1. When i look back hes running pretty damn tight. If he had bet the river i probably would have folded, when he checked i thought I was good for sure. Hows the line?

Caveat: very novice.

I understand you don't have a range on this guy regarding PFR and capping PF. When your villain caps I figure pessimistically that he has AA, KK, or AK. I doubt he would cap with JJ, TT, or KQ. Well, thanks to the unfortunate 5 all three of those have you beaten. I would call down turn and river and he saved you a bet on the river.

[In another thread you mentioned wanting to give your game a checkup after a couple of losing sessions, well I'm in need of the same after 9 of 11 short sessions have been in the red. I start to doubt every move! Some PT review shows hands that look OK and others in the "what was I thinking?" category.]

I'm normally raising the flop here to see where I stand, but then again my table image is usually a bit LAGGY so I wouldnt be suprised to get capped by TT+ and AQ+ here preflop. Regardless, I hate to be the one calling with JJ/QQ etc when villain has nothing but overcards, I'm almost always raising the flop here to try and take control of the hand, make the most of my position and hopefully gain some more information about the strength of villains hand. If I get 3-bet or donked into on the turn I'm really relying on my reads to try and find a fold, otherwise I'm bet/folding the turn and checking behind on the river for a cheap showdown (as it happens the river in this particular hand made it an easy check behind for you).

Then again, maybe I'm too aggressive?
