line check?
given his small turn bet, I thought I'd make a raise to represent the flush and possibly disguise my hand.

I like to use this play once in a while, but only against weak-tight opponents who will believe your raise (and who would rarely bet the flop out of position with a flush draw). It also helps to have a squeeky tight image. Even better is the naked ace of spades

Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

The fact that everyone limps preflop makes it more likely someone likes this low flop. Then he bets OOP. I can see calling flop for pot control. But you can't like the 4s on the turn, as it completes every possible draw.
Depending on the read you might think he was trying to take down the pot on the turn. Still, he bet again, OOP! If he is a thinking player, with lets say something that ISN"T the st8 or flush, so two pair for instance, why bet at all? from his perspective you likely hit. His bet would be an idiots bluff.
If you trust your read, I guess I can see why you raised turn, if it was to win the pot immeadiately. But lets run though this hand. He either has the st8 or flush, or he doesn't, right? So you are either a 75%/25% underdog, or a huge favorite. If you are the underdog, no reason to raise and get more money in, as calling is only slightly -ev if he fully pots. If you are ahead, no reason to blow him off his hand, as the only way to get more money in is if he bluffs river, or calls your value bet (assuming you make one).
So I guess I'm calling flop and turn. Evaluating river. If I didn't FH and he failed to bet, I might take a good stab at a stealing. You really need to think about if you DO hit, and he doesn't bet, how much you think he will call river. I'd say around $0, unless he has the st8flush
For that reason, as played (assuming raised turn, which I wouldn't do) I could justify folding.
