Villain is a huge fish. Bought in for 100 and run it up to over 300 playing like a passive call station in an indian call centre.
I haven't played any hands with him personally. My image is tightish. Line check? And your play on the river?

I'd bet $25-30, fold to a raise. If he's as passive as your read suggests, he might well look you up with 96xx or even 2 pair. I wouldn't expect a raise from anything but AJxx for the nut straight.

Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

Fold pre-flop, your hand makes second best too often to want to play it.
Unless you have a super-aggro image, the river is a value bet. Although, there can be a case made for checking as it looks a lot like the other guy is on a draw.

Calling pre-flop is a little iffy. I dont like open-limping in general, and if I do do it its generally with the nut flush draw possiblity in my hand, which you dont really have.
Why did you bet the flop oop into so many people? You dont have that great of a hand and it would really suck to get raised.
On the turn, bet is good.
On river, bet pot/fold. You can get away with this because he's a passive fish and prolly will only raise AJ.

I don't mind this hand PF 7 handed. The gap in the straight potential in is in right spot (the low end). I'd much rather play 9JQK than 9TJK because having the gap at the top of the rundown does make many problem/non-nut/second best hands.

i'm running 25-27 vpip and this hand is a fairly routine call for me. I may sometimes limp fold to a big raise. It could be a leak, but I don't really think it is.
Result: I pot and he calls with a retarded 2 pair that was drawing mostly dead on the turn

no one else ever pulls a check, snap call line on these type of rivers. Results aside, you played like a made hand, he played like a draw. Only thing is, you've hit the 2nd best draw, and I don't see too many hands that have AJ in them that he plays this way (ie are likely draw/wrap hands)
OOP, you check, and he bets his st8. Since he is passive, raising then doesn't make sense since he is folding anything other than AJ. I pull what I like to call a 'Value check/call' pretty often over a session. If you are known as tight, or the cards haven't been hitting and poeple erronously see you that way, this is a good line in my opinon.
Put another way, I don't see poeple calling pot or 3/4 type bets on this river with two pair very often to be the best line (obv this guy did, but that's results oriented). They will bet it after a river check, though. . .

I was very close to checking and calling. That's why I posted what seems to be a routine hand against a fish.
Probably the thing that tipped me over to betting was that I'd been betting for 2 streets and he didn't seem like he wanted to fold at all. I just felt his calling range was wider than his betting range. Against a player with no read I'd check 80% of the time for the reasons you gave
