Say i raise from middle position with 99, and i get re-raised by someone on the button, is it acceptable to call here and play for trips? Or should i be folding (most likely) or re-raising him only?

That all depends on your read of the person. If the person is loose you may want to see a flop and go from there.

If you have trips, that is an hand win much more than lost. Why not playing it fiecely? Raise it !
Anyways, if too many people see the flop an get intense actions in flop or turn. SLow down.

Most likely I WON"T fold a trip.haha

no no .. i think what he is asking is, if he has 99 in MP preflop, and raises, and someone behind him.. say on the button, reraises, do you call the bet to try and see a flop.

heres my criteria for a middle pair like 99

if its folded to me preflop, i'll stick out a raise, if im reraised by someone behind me, i'll call the bet and see a flop. if the flop is all low cards, i'll raise to see what the reraiser is going to do.. if he reraises me again, i'll reraise again to see if he really has an over pair or just AK, probably call it down as long as nothing higher then a J pops up

if theres limpers in front of me, i just limp and hope to catch a 9 on the flop.

Yeah well thats what i did, i called to see the flop, and i hit my trips, and got more than my fair share of the implied odds, but that was because he had trip aces .

So this leads me to another question on a A94 rainbow board, you are capping every street with your trip nines, where it was 3-bet preflop, is there any reason to slow down here?

Capping every street is probably a good line. I may slow down on the river.
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

yep he slowed down when the flush hit, so i just called the river luckily. By then i was pretty sure he had trip aces, but until the river, on such a nice board, i couldn't bring my self to stop raising, but i figured he had AK AQ AJ or two pair too many times to stop raising.

rainbow means all colours different, ie no suited cards on the board, A94 is just the ranks of the cards,

set over set isnt all that common, your safe ramming and jamming the pot until scare cards come...

if he is still persistant on 4th street, i'll just call another bet on the turn and river and pray MHIG

I don't slow down with any set until the river unless I have a read or he's clearly representing a better made hand (frush.)
