daven will become famous soon enough
First of all, thanks for all your advice and comments on posted hands. It's helped loads!
I've taken on board what you said about manic tables and it seems to be working. I have a few more comments to add now.

Information. HuD and loads of hands are invaluable for several reasons:
1) Seat selection. It is so much nicer to have the 90-8-1 player to your right and the 8-3-0.5 player to your left than the other option...
2) New to me! Distinguishing weak players who can be bullied post-flop from those who will call down even with bottom pair. Both can be exploited, but it's dangerous to mix the two up
3) Pre-flop ranges. Everyone talks about it. I think it's common to put people on a range pre-flop and then forget about it on later streets. It's nice to play (call or re-raise) pre-flop with 99-JJ almost certain that villain has AA or KK, makes post-flop life easy...

Maximising winnings/minimising losses
Someone wrote in a post on this forum that winning big pots when sets hit isn't really winning if you're always paying out when other people hit. Too true! If a hand is invulnerable then it's nicer to get four players to the turn rather than scare them off post-flop - check-raising with these hands before the turn is stupid in my opinion. Laying down beaten hands is important, or calling down when uncertain. I prefer to call down a maybe best hand rather than keep betting and raising blindly. Means some pots won are smaller than they need to be, but doesn't matter....

Sorry if this is all totally obvious, thanks again...
