Something I've started trying. Rather than play the short handed tables, sit at a FR table with 3 or fewer players, then get up when there are 7 or more at the table and it is my turn to be the BB. There are several advantages to this for a good player:

The table will have a greater variance in # of players as new players join. The player who knows how to adjust to this will have a huge advantage over players that don't know how to make proper adjustments for table size.

As the table grows, many of the new players will post, which is a huge advantage to all other players whenever it happens. If the EV of posting is -0.08 BB. Suppose the table is 5 handed ... each of the other players gets on average 0.02 BB. Thats 2BB/100. Even if there is only a poster every 8 hands, thats .25BB/100.

You will get some free hands to play. For example, you have played 4 handed for a few orbits, then when you are in the CO, 3 people sit down to your right and post. In addition to the value you get from them posting, you will now get 3 free hands to play without having to post the blinds.

Sounds good to me, but are you adjusting to the fact that these players will be playing their FR game even tho it is shorthanded?

I think you have a good idea here, b/c what do you think plays better? A 6max player playing shorthanded at a FR table or a FR player playing 6max full table.

Not too fair of a comparison but I believe your reasoning is good, just make sure you stand up when the table fills up. Your 6max game should dominate these looser players when the table is short.
