do you guys think it is profitable to play hands like A4 and A3 from the SB with only one limper? I have played a low AX 10 times in the SB and it has earned about .16bb/hand. Is it worth it since you are paying only half the cost and the fact that the others are not very likely to be holding another A ?

In 10k hands at .5/1, I've been dealt Axo in the SB, where x <=8, 63 times.
It's a -.33BB/hand proposition for me. From my stats, I take it to showdown 42% of the time(too much) and win money only 45% of the time (not enough).
Either I'm playing it wrong post flop or it's not a profitable play and your results are skewed by sample size.

I think it is automatic to play it from the SB if no one raised.

I agree with Eric. You could also try raising it in the SB to fold the BB and get the guy HU. I say with more than 2 limpers this is a fold, with one limper (especially if its just the weak-loose Button who should have blind stealed) I raise.

What's the blind structure?
1/3 is a fold
1/2 is close
2/3 is a complete (pretty much because you have 2 cards that don't totally blow)
Here is why.
The power of Ax is the ability to win unimproved in a 2 or 3 way pot. However, without position playing a naked Ace is very difficult, you will too often have to fold the best hand to any resistance and lose the ability to check behind on the river after showing aggression on the prior streets.

Consider:
How likely is the BB to fold?
How likely is the BB to have a better hand?
Everyone puts the PFR on an Ace, so if you bet into an Axx board you won't get as many calls from worse hands.
Oh, and you're out of position too...

typically there are two aces dealt out on every hand. if there is one limper, i'm putting him on some kind of ace. i'm not going to spend a bunch of chips in a micropot to find out whether my kicker is good. just dump it.
