let's say, for a moment, that you're in a good loose game. So loose in fact, that raises from UTG are not effectively thinning the field.

Let's also say that you're dealt AQo in this game, you should not raise with AQo, in fact, if you were to choose to raise with good suited connectors from utg in this game, you'd be perfectly correct.

AQs on the other hand, you should raise from UTG in this game. Because you're aiming for a bloated pot with this type of hand.

Discuss.
The older I get, the more I start wondering; Just what in the hell is going on here?

I used to think that, and limp w/ AQo in these types of games... then wonder why when I DID win that pot, why I wasn't winning very much. The answer: because I didn't make my idiot opponents pay, when they were calling w/ J7o, etc.

You're going to win you fair share w/ AQo in these games, and should be raised preflop EVERY TIME! Simply, don't get married to the hand when 7 players call, and the flop comes rag, connected. Limping AQo against these horrible players is giving away too much. Ed Miller (SSHE) talks a lot about this, and is actually one major concept that made my wins much, much bigger.

Can't be afraid of building big pots with those typed of hands... It's not how many pots you win, it's how many BETS!
