i think you played both hands well, nothing you can do about the river when it hits you like that.
for the second hand, i might have bet the turn again, but i see that you're afraid of the A. he is too, so put a note on him so next time you meet this guy you'll know if you get raised he has the A.

Fellow FTRer 'nehmer' as well as fellow schoolmate.
The first was the first hand he played on the table, the second was, well, because I was afraid of that A.

I think I would have raised his river bet instead of calling. All other streets look good to me. There aren't a whole lot of hands that beat you, unfortunately he had one of them.
Hand #2
I would have bet the turn, even with the A hitting the board. Heads up, with only one overcard to my pocket pair, this is a standard bet. If he raises your turn bet, then you might have to lay it down.

Hand 1:
Cap the turn, bet the river and call his river raise.
Hand 2:
No reason to think he has an Ace. Bet the turn and fold to a raise (pot is too small to call down without a read.) Check behind on the river.
