I have been trying this game lately playing the .01/.02 PL tables but something I notice is that several times when I have the nut low hand it turns out another person also has it as well and on occasion a third person too.

When it is done I have less money than when I started the hand so my question is this:

When I have the nut low should I NOT be making those pot size bets and/or not raising?

If I have a hand going in that has only the low possibility and no way am I going to be high should I be backing off?

This getting tied for the low hand has happened several times. Is this usual or have I just been running into a little bad luck on this. I am still learning and I figure the .01/.02 PL tables are the cheapest way to do it. Thanks for any input.

TLR is an unknown quantity at this point
playing for the low half of the pot is only worthwhile in very loose games, when you can actually make money by winning half pots.
Your starting hands requirements should be hands that has a decent chance to win both ways or strong high hands only.

Getting quartered happens a lot in full tables, even with the nut low you should proceed with caution in a three way pot (without reads ofcourse).

Another note on low hands is that on the flop and turn nut low can turn into a worthless hand without backup. For example assume you have A2KQ and the flop comes 3,6,8 rainbow.
You have the nut low, but any A or 2 on the turn or river will turn your hand to junk

yeah, there's no reason to bet if you're only winning half the pot, all you're doing is feeding the rake and screwing yourself if you're quartered, or if like TLR said a card comes on a later street to screw your hand over

The real reason to play A2 hands is not for the benefit of making the nut low and splitting a pot. The reason to play this hand is because while it is splitting the pot some of the time, it allows other parts of your hand to be aiming to scoop the pot. When you play A2, you actually want to be using some other aspect of your hand, something that will scoop. A2 just makes it safe for you to play, including often giving you the chance to make backdoor straights and flushes that you otherwise would not have stayed in the pot to make. This again goes back to "driving the pot". A2 allows you to drive the pot in situations like where you have A2JT with the nut flush draw and the board is 4678. Your A2 allows you to stick around for the gutshot straight draw, and allows you to aggressively bet your nut flush draw. That is where the money is, not in splitting the pot with the nut low.
