Tomorrow marks my one year anniversary at FTR. What a year it has been too.

Started out playing $1 SNGs and .05/.1 LHE at Superior Poker. When I felt like 'Gamboling' I would play the .1/.25 game there. I've made some changes to my game, learned to listen to Fnord more (I still laugh at my posts from a year ago), and have made strides in poker and my life.

I thank thee FlopTurnRiver for vastly improving my poker game, my life, and my attitude. I'm sure a number of players will tell you, if my game can be fixed, then there is hope for everyone.

Check out my videos at Grinderschool.com

More Full Ring NLHE Cash videos than ANY other poker training site. Training starts at $10/month.

My game has improved so much after starting to visit FTR only this Feb and its been only 6 months. I wonder what it will do in 1 year and I can hardly wait.

I also feel that FTR helped me improve MY ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE GAME as much as my game itself. I will try to list a few things that it helped me improve but by no means its all inclusive.

How FTR helped me:
------------------------
Attitude:

1) Reinforce that its a long term game. Dont worry about 1 session or 1 week. Think long term. So thats why even if I whine every now and then, I have the faith that things will come around next time and no one is out to get me lol.

2) Aggressiveness pays off. Poker isnt for pussies. I used to be so passive. Then in b&M started being maniacal aggressive. I hope i have found the good middle (though i still am lacking some aggressive ness).

3) Bad beats happen to everyone. I have had some downswings (-90 BB max) but nothing compared to what some people have dropped. So have patience and instead work to improve my game. Money will take care of itself. also -90 Bb was not all random. I had my bad plays mixed up too so that doesnt count

4) Keep learning from people on this board. I have learnt as much poker from FTR and probably more than what i have from Lee Jones and Ed Miller combined .
THANKS TO ALL THE FTR MEMBERS, especially hyper, fnord, rondavu, elipses, pokerfanatic, room, strong etc. There are others in that list, I just cant remmeber to name them all.
-----------------------------------
Actual Poker Play

1) If you are raised on the turn, time to re-evaluate. Dont 3 bet or cap your TPTK (i used to do it every single day, twice on sunday ).

2) If someone raises you on two streets, lay it down sometimes if you dont improve. I have most trouble with this one. cant lay down my tptk yet, hopefully will soon as i get better.

3) Betting for value, raising for value. I didnt use to bet the river enough. Now, even if the board looks a bit scary but NOT very scary, i bet the river and have people sometimes call me with second best hands. I do get raised at times but thats just the hazards of the job.

4) Raise and Reraise AA, KK, QQ, AK regardless of what people in B&M say "oh AA and KK never wins. AK you need to see the flop". Some of the really big pots I have won are from AK. I have lost some too but have the discipline to lay down my AK now when it looks hopeless on the turn. Cant do that with AA yet.

BTW, I did lay down my KK on the flop yesterday when I had red kings and 3 spades with the Ace showed up on the flop and it came bet and raised to me. . Guy had a set of 3s on the flop.

Since this is turning to be a "thanks FTR" thread, I might as well join because I only recently joined the site.

I used to think that limit was the "pussy's hold em" because you can't go all in or other such anti-limit-NL-is-better-than-j00 argument. I now find myself to appreciate limit a lot more and actually prefer it to NL now. I can see why many here went pro with limit. Incidentally, I became a better NL player first. I began to be able to read other players better based on reading hand histories presented here and noticing trends I can't pick up quickly on the battlefield.

I used to take losses hard, but now, I see that some people lose my entire bankroll in one hand and I put my poker money in perspective. I separated it from my wages or other financial sources because it is strictly for poker use only (thanks rilla).

All in all, I want to have FTR's babies

I definitely owe a thanks to all the strong limit and NL players here, my logs show when I started reading FTR, my bankroll started growing tremendously... too bad I spent most of it

I would be playing 5-10 full time had I not... oh well, such is life.

My game still sucks so no thanks yet.

But... my most common note now is "open limps". (Remember I like the 5 max or 6 max tables best). I have finally (and recently) completely stopped open limping and man what an effect on the table it has - since any hand worth playing to start out has to be a raise for me it has stopped me from leaking away chips with hands like 9J, makes my hands that hit when I do raise with hands like 9J even more valuable, and puts the table in a "I don't know how to play now mode." Also since the table will occasionally see my small suited connectors crack a simply called AK, AQ or even sometimes an overpair, I get people calling me with A junk when I do have AJs and higher and just rake those hands in.

I don't think I would be where I am today without this site... that says a whole lot in its self...
