I once was in a SNG and was getting irritated by a donk who seemed to stay in every hand. When me OR others had flush draws and 2 pair/set trying to make a boat, this guy seemed to always win by hitting a straight. After I while I realized he had a point, he was playing wraps, and was a huge chip leader from hitting straight after straight.

I think I am trying to say: LOVE the straight, until 3 of a suit or a pair is on the board!

In full ring I only play a straight when it's the best one and the board is uncoordinated in all other aspects (not paired, no 3 suited cards).

Wait to pop the turn. Don't overplay flopped straights on the flop if you have no redraws.
