Not all of them of course. But I welcome the ones who constantly raise big before the flop whenever they have two aces. So goofy. If someone raises like that and I have a good hand, particularly one that happens to have an ace in it, I'm very much looking forward to playing that hand against them. Or if I hit a set and there's no ace out there? Bombs away.

That raise is basically an announcement of all the following:

1 - If I don't flop an ace or some high cards, I'm probably dead (because two of my cards are aces)

2 - If you have an ace I'm probably dead (because my odds of making top set just got cut in half)

Funny enough, most Omaha players limp everything except hands with aces in them.

A better way to play aces.... (could have raised the flop, but I imagine I wouldn't have made as much money that way... this is the biggest pot I've ever won in any poker game, btw)

One of the writers in Card Player suggested learning Omaha because there is an awful lot of easy money out there.

Before you try it do some reading because the strategy is deceptively different from hold em.

How true this is. Over the last few days I have been taking a break from holdem as the bad beats have been horrendous.

Anyway, I moved to Omaha on UB and have been CRUSHING this game. It is amazing how many people that are playing it have no idea what they are doing.

In fact I witnessed one hand in which a guy held 3 aces and could not figure out why his full house did not hold up.

pardon the expression, but it is like fishing in a barrel!!
If you put all your faith in the river, you are up shit's creek

It's absolutely true. Guys raising big every time they get aces, and staying in pots they absolutely should fold out of... guys playing hands where they think they have a boat or a straight or something, and don't realize they can't use three of their hole cards. And of course, nearly everybody playing all kinds of bad starting hands because they just don't know the difference between Omaha hands. "2 4 7 10 rainbow? Sign me up!" "Quad nines? I'm all in, bitches!"

The thing is, most people play a lot of holdem before they start playing Omaha. So they figure it's always a good idea to raise with AA. In Omaha it's usually a bad idea, and it makes it pretty obvious what you have, so you'll never win a big pot that way against good players.

From the strategies I've read, it's very rarely a good idea to raise pre-flop with any hand, especially in early position. After all, in Omaha you're trying to hit the nuts, so you want to have a lot of people in the hand... and you can usually get more money into the pot after the flop.

Having said that, the only time I like to raise pre-flop is in late position with an amazing hand like AKQJ, AAKQ, etc, especially suited or double suited. And I generally make holdem-style raises, like 3 or 4 times the big blind, as opposed to betting the pot. After all, in this situation I'm not necessarily trying to knock people out of the hand, I just want to get more money into the pot. Just my 2 cents.

Omaha is defiately my game, and if you think you have the best hand pre-flop, a raise is always the best option. Put your money in while you are ahead.

In first hand you were underdog to beat the aces, got lucky on the flop but he still had 9 outs to make the nut flush and 2 outs with the aces to beat your trip kings.. that's 11 outs for you opponent?

Then you congratulate your own great play on the third hand when you played your own pocket aces against dirtyjerzace's nut straight on the turn card, calling his all-in with 10 outs to make a fullhouse...

It seems (to me atleast) that you value your results more then you do the actual odds?

I tend to agree with raza, pocket aces is good in omaha too, especially shorthanded. Raising preflop with AAxx knocks out a few players behind you, and that's what you want. There are other raisable hands aswell, so if you make the assumption everytime someone makes a raise they have AA, it might cost you because your conclusions may be wrong at the later betting rounds. I agree though AAxx should not always be raised preflop but just because AAxx doesn't always hold up to the river it doesn't mean it would have been better to always just limp with the hand...

however, doggz, things are not always that easy... it depends on the game and what you want to achieve... raising preflop would perhaps knock players out that could make 2nd and 3rd best hands and you wouldn't like that since they might have paid you off greatly if they got the chance to stay in and make their good, but worse than yours, hands... some hands play better against many opponents, and some hands play better against few...
