I did a search but all the posts are over a year old and there are no reviews on FTR.

Seems like I should get slotboom's book. Bob Ciaffone wrote an omaha book that used to be looked highly upon (not the NL/PL book).

I really like reading books, but I don't want to waste my time either.

I'm playing PLO now, but I'd be open to PLO8 references also.

I already have SS2, if you want to comment on that it's cool.

you would be wasting your time by reading most of the Omaha literature.

The book by Ciaffone is really the best there is.

Just listen to what I say

TLR is an unknown quantity at this point
If you plan on playing limit Omaha hi-lo the Ray Zee book is good, it does not carry over well to PL/NL

That seems to be the consensus.

not really an endorsement but bob's book is less bad. Rolf's bok I have from reliable sources is a dud.

Maybe if a friend of mine gets his act together we'll put out a book...

Well, I ordered them both (got a good price on them). I'll definitely post my thought here. I hope they don't turn me into a worse poster than leg.

Ciaffone's is very good.
Def one of the best.
Slotbooms book is good too and has many good examples. Can get some good ideas from it.

Now I just saw this week that Sammy Farha as just put out a book on Omaha. Would be very curious to see this one too. Haven't heard anything about it yet.

I heard that the Farha book was ass. Recycled basic material and very little seems to be written by Farha himself let alone his style. I was hoping for it to be a good one too

If anyone has read it and has a different opinion, I would love to hear it. I buy (well, using affiliate points for amazon gift cards...) nearly every half-decent poker book out there, but for now I am going to stay away from Farha's.
Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

Can you comment on the other 2?

The Ciaffone is the smallest (thin) poker poker I've ever seen. I'm not surprised it's cheap and not too excited (I've read SSII and searched the web and red Salsa's posts).

Rolf's seems average. I noticed a lot of buying in short stuff, which I knew to expect. I figure at least it will give me a better idea of how the non-omatarded shorties think.

I'll post more when I finish them

Ciaffone's is small but very much to the point. Good hand examples and it helps a lot with figuring out equities in hands. His 12 tips on PLO high are very concise and well worth the price of the book alone. The stuff on PLO8/limit Omaha hi-lo and limit Omaha high is very, very basic from what I remember.

I wasn't too impressed with Rolf's book. I read it hoping to get a clutch short stack strategy, but it didn't turn out as well as I had hoped. Most of that strategy involves being able to get a seat to the right of a very loose-aggressive/maniac player so you can get all your chips in with the best of it and/or dead money in the pot. Most micro-low stakes (up to 200PLO) games just aren't aggressive enough preflop for it to work.

The rest of his book was more of a narrative about where and who he played against in his career. Mostly useless anecdotes and a little bragging if I recall correctly.

There is one book I haven't seen mentioned which is "How good is your Pot Limit Omaha?" by Stewart Reuben. Those of you who play limit holdem might recognize that name- Reuben and Ciaffone wrote a great book together called Middle Limit Holdem.

This book is purely comprised of hands in a quiz form and, at 192 pages, isn't much thicker than Ciaffone's book. There are questions for each decision to be made during the hand, as well as some additional hypothetical quiz questions (eg, "if instead the river was the 10 of diamonds, what would your play be?"). Definitely a book that gets you thinking of some of the decision making processes that go on in PLO (high only in this book).

Also, many hands are from the same sessions and are presented in chronological order, so you get to use previous information on villains to make decisions in later hands.
Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

Hi everyone, I'm completely new to Omaha and have been playing NLHE SnGs for the past 12 months. I thought I'd give Omaha a try and have been playing the Play Money games for the last few nights to get used to the hands, etc.

I am definitely going to buy the Ciaffone book as everyone on here seems to think it's the best.

Is the Rolf Slotboom book worth getting for a beginner or should I just stick to the Ciaffone book?

Also, how about Pot-Limit Omaha Poker: The Big Play Strategy by Jeff Hwang?

Any advice appreciated as I know nothing about Omaha.

Don't bother with the Rolf one right now.

Search the intertubes.

Go read a lot of Salsa's posts.

Bought Hwang's book recently, mainly because 2p2 was masturbating all over it. Hopefully I'll be hanging out here in a few weeks...
