first off, AJ suited is a raising hand in any position pre-flop. never mind the fact that the KK was out there. that slowplaying dumbass lost out on a TON of extra money AND put himself into an enormously risky situation by not raising his own hand pre-flop.
here's why. on the flop, you had 9 spade outs to the nut flush PLUS 3 outs to the inside straight (Qc, Qd, Qh). that's 12 cards that help you crush his hand. ok subtract the 10s which fills him up. 11 cards out of the remaining 47 pull you way ahead of his hand. that's a better than 3:1 proposition... and that's just on the next one card. over the next two cards, you are close to 50-50 to catch your card.
now look at the size of the pot. $8 by the time the action's on you. your odds of winning are 3:1 against, yet the pot is laying you 8:1!!! and it will be even bigger because the pot is multiway.
so you MUST raise the flop. you are going to win in this situation very often. when you do, you want the pot to be juiced to the max. it only costs you an extra $1-$2 to ram the pot, but when you win, you will scoop $24 or more!
it doesn't matter that you lost this particular hand. keep raising your very strong draws when the pot is large and you will be repaid in the long run.
please note that i said when the pot is large. if you're heads up or 3way, you usually don't have the same kind of payout odds because the pot is small. but in such situations, you should still raise on the come as a semi-bluff and hope to end it right there.
