I don't like the river bet either.
No hand that you beat will call here, so your bet can't be for value. The only other reason to bet here would be to get a better hand to fold. But that's not going to happen. Betting the flop and checking the turn is pretty weak, and on a double-paired board, even A-high will frequently call (and any better hand is certainly calling).
So basically, the only people that will call your bet have you beat, and nobody that has you beat is folding.

The important thing is if you feel you have the best hand often enough to warrant a check/call, bet/fold is a better line, since you may fold out the A high hands, and possibly a small pair (though unlikely)

To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.
