Went to one of my live games last night. This place has 30+3 tourneys as well as a live action game. Tourneys are supposed to be winner take all, but the top 2 frequently chop based on chip count. And of the 4 tourneys I played I was in the money in 3 of them. (had a massive chip lead in one)

But when I wasn't doing that I was playing the live action 3/6 game that was going on. It was dealer's choice, and when I sat down the choice was Omaha. First couple hands I passed, 3rd hand I was UTG+1 and got KQJTr (T=ten, r=rainbow). I raised (this is a VERY loose game, so a preflop raise typically brings in extra bets from everyone) knowing that if it was going to be a high only, I was likely to be in on it.

The flop comes K6Jr (can you say freeroll to the nuts?)

I bet and get 5 callers (chasing the low, mostly)

Turn is a K(!)

I bet and get 2 callers

River is a K(!!)

I bet, and the guy to my left raises (???), the other caller calls (huh? can they not read the board?), so I raise, and guy to my left raises again (I look at the board to make sure I didn't miss a str8 flush - there isn't one), the guy to his left calls, so I raise all-in (I'd only had like $40 in front of me) and get called by both.

I show the K, and the raiser smacks his forehead and goes "oh shit, man I misread my hand!" He was quite tired and thought the Q in his hand was a K. The other caller had AAxx so had the nut full if I didn't have the K.

Took down a $120+ pot.

word to the wise: if you're so tired you're mis-reading your hand, pack it up and go home

LockLow,
I just read you entry entitled "Nice Omaha Hand (and a lesson about late night poker)" and I'm a little confused. At the showdown you would have had Kings full of Jacks (since you have to play two from your hand) and the poket aces hand would have had Kings full of Aces. Right? But, you said you took down the pot. Did the guy with aces not know how to read his hand? And don't card speak?

The Community held K6JKK
His hand was KQJT
His best 5 card hand was KKK KQ
The 3 Ks from the community, and the K and kicker from his hand.

But if you are interested in a sotry where the someone takes down the pot with a losing hand...

I don't know what they have to say
It makes no difference anyway.
Whatever it is...
I'm against it.
