Today I tried 7 stud. I had a real upswing, sat down at the .25/.50 limit tables with $6 at one table and $11 at one, and ended up with around $25 at each. Someone told me 7 stud was a more "skilly" poker game, that there is less luck involved, but I think the difference from holdem is not that great. There is still a lot of luck, but of course there are more ways to make mistakes, which a good player could make some profit on.

However, it seems to me that the players are pretty fishy. They acted like they had no starting hand selection strategy at all, and I felt like I was the shark at the table although I had only read some articles about basic strategy.

I think there might be some money to be made in this game.

I play 2/4 stud at the gaming club all the time. The players are SUPER fishy and the ante is only a .25 I quit playing holedem all together for a while because I was making so much playing stud, until I started multi-tabling. Just practice good starting hand selection, make sure your cards are live, and work on readiing opponents. Also stay away from going too far with weak hands, dump them while its cheap.
