I posted this in Tools of Poker as well, but I figure I might get a quicker response here.

Ok I finally got it.

I have PokerTracker now and have moved my Limit playing over to Party.

I tested it out yesterday by playing a few hands.

What I did was click the "auto-import Party" thingamadoober and then clicked some timer and voila all my hands at Party got sucked into this neato tracking device. So fine, the computer retard can figure a few things out.

My question is, do I need to open Tracker and do this each time I play, or is there a way for it to magically just import all of my Party hands all the time so that I can just turn on my computer, click on Paty and play. And then check PokerTracker later and it will have all my hands without me doing anything.

As far as I know, you have to have poker tracker open for it to be importing hands

nope. gotta do that every time. Theres a "timer" option, where if you have it auto-importing while youre playing it'll do it, well, while youre playing.

Thanks - yeah I used that timer thingy yesterday.

So if I don't click that it will somehow import all my hands after I am done playing?

Also - I read somewhere that the more hands I suck in, it may somehow slow my computer down (remember I am still on dial-up so we really don't want it any slower). What do I need to do to avoid that?

when your database begins to get fairly large it will be even slower. Just gotta deal with it. It helps to compact the database every now and again though (theres an option for this on the menu bar).

If you don't click the timer you will need to manually import the hands when you are done, and it is actually more cumbersome that way (I think).

It shouldn't slow you down that much on a hand to hand basis. The data is already on your PC it just needs to be imported into PokerTracker. Shouldn't effect your available bandwidth. If it does slow you down, then just import the session when you are done for the night.

You also need to keep in mind the hand download limit for the site you play on. If you don't have pokertracker doing it auto, then you have to request a hand history often enough to get all your hands. If, for example, you are playing 150 hands and hour and your site only allows a 100 hand request, you should be requesting 100 hands every 30 minutes if doing manually to make sure. I like setting mine to 20 hands every 5 mins ... then I have PT check my email every 5 mins, and have the 2 functions syncopated ... 2 and a half mins after the request, PT checks the email (it is almost always there by then), and I have my #s updated as quickly as possible in PT to get stats on my opps.

For sites that store HH's on your harddrive (eg. Stars, Party, B2B) you don't have to import them right away. You can load up PT after your session and import them all in one shot if you please.

Some sites seem to not like that though, such as if they only email a certain number (as someone mentioned above) or if the database file is temporary (Pokerroom was once like this if I recall correctly, it might still be).

Hi,

Party stores the handhistories right on your coomputer.

I have Poker tracker set up so I have one Database per Limit and type of game - 10_25_NL, 5_SitnGo, 10_20_Limit - etc.

I don't like using the automatic import because it puts everything from the directory you specify into one database.

I manually import each table into it's particular database. When I'm done playing for the day I then move the handhistories to another directory for archiving purposes - but someone less anal could also delete them.

I found that having one huge database got very slow and when the import started, my computer would almost freeze up. Also, when I do it manually, I do an import 5 or 10 minutes after starting a game to get some initial stats on the players at my table.

I have seperate DBs for full ring limit, 6-max limit, 6-max NL, full ring NL and another for my latest experiment of buying in short at full ring NL tables.

Ok so how exactly (i.e. tell me exactly what buttons to push) do I import hands AFTER I am done playing?

Also how exactly do I create and/or compact a database when I start getting up there with hands?

Open pokertracker.
Click on the "Auto-import hand histories from Party Poker Network" button
Click on "Start Timer" in the new window that pops up.

Open and play Party as per normal.

When finished, back to Poker Tracker and click on "Stop Timer" (it's the same button as "Start Timer" just that it's changed name). Now click on the "Force Import" button next to it to get the hands it's missed since the last auto update.

Or.

You can ignore the Start and Stop Timer and just Force Import when you've finished on party if it's slowing down your computer.

With regards to compacting, click on the "Utilities" tab at the top of the Poker Tracker screen, and then on "One Step Compact - Poker and Hand History Databases"
