this isn't an "i got outdrawn waaa waaa" post - the way my opponent played, i'll play with him anytime.

i had the better hand (visible on the board) until 7th st. because of this, the action was first on me from 4st on, so i had no chances to raise.

my question: with my hand fully visible (even though i could have had the boat), should i have respected the raise on 7th st and folded? he knew one of my aces was dead, and his boat would beat my boat (if i had one of 9's over aces).

so - fold or call one more bet?

It's hard to go wrong calling one more bet in a big pot. Kinda picking the lessor of the two evils.

With a dead Ace + Ten, I might muck this on 3rd. Although the ante is kind big...

yeah - i thought calling was better even though i was probably beat.

i still can't believe he stayed in on 6th st when my visible hand beat his whole hand!

If I'm just playing what I'm showing, or just playing a hand I've had and obviously have been representing from early on (a high two pair type hand with one pair showing), I think I may be beat now, but its still a strong hand that I won't fold on the river, I prefer to just check / call.

And especially if you're just playing the board, its really silly to bet the river. No one with half a brain will call your bet if they can't beat what you're showing, and they'll call / raise if they do. Likewise, a check may induce the rare bluff, which is more profit.

A lesser hand won't call, but may bet if checked to, and a better hand will likely make you put an extra bet, so check calling seems like the better way to play it.

However against bad players, bet/call or bet/fold is almost always better than check/call. Moving up, I think it's better to start out with an Aggro river and then learn against who and when to slow down.

I agree more with Michael. You tend to check these type of situations. The only reason they are playing 6th street is b/c their chasing or your already beat. So if you dont make your boat, its better to check. This situation is obvious enough where a "bad player" wont pay you off on the river (Aces-up) if they couldnt beat whats showing.

Yes, mucking 3rd is probably correct even if there wasnt any A's or 10's showing
