3 from the board and 2 from your hand in Omaha, ALWAYS.

Fold pre-flop, 3 broadway cards without any flush possibility is a sucker hand in Omaha.

That's what I get I suppose. Decided to try the game earlier today and it was easy money until now. Made $100 in the first hour. Took about 340 hands to figure this one out the hard way. Anything else I should know about Omaha?

Thanks,
Buckeye

You often want the nuts before getting in all your money. Particularly against bad players.

Don't bluff, someone will often find a reason to call at the lower stakes.

Only draw to the nuts unless it's a secondary draw (straight draw + weak flush draw is ok.)

Bottom set is often a sucker hand.

Trips are easy to over-value.

The broadway straight without a re-draw is often a sucker hand.

It's a swingy game. The edges are smaller than Hold'em.

That's a definate fold preflop (I might complete in the SB, depending on the table; but never call a raise) The 6 is a useless card, with that hand; you have no flush options.

If you want a decent method of picking hands preflop, try Hutchison. Dont follow it like the bible, but its a reasonable starting point for rookies. He also has a system for Hi/Lo split, its linked at the bottom:

Hutchison Omaha point system

Omaha typically requires a much stronger hand than Texas, after the flop.
Is that guy still part of the forum??

I've also been told that Omaha is a game where the draw is more important then made hands. If you have a made hand but nor real chance to improve it then calling down raises are a bad idea.

IE a made straight on the flop may be fine and dandy but if that is the best hand you can make, then be ready to fold it when someone raises on the turn or river and there is a flush draw or even full boat possible on the board.

I have folded the nut straight on the flop before. I bet the pot, I get re-raised, then that person gets re-raised. I fold. One had top set and a redraw to the higher straight, one had nut flush draw plus bottom set. There almost isnt any safe cards for me

Yea, it's always the best idea to know how to play before you toss your money around.

This may not make sense, but because the 'edges' are smaller it makes players play expotentially worse, making it more profitable for me.

Another thing I find is that there is often no or little preflop raising in Omaha. But if you play tight, you can often destack a bunch of hold em players who think two pair is a good hand.

Also, bottom set is definitly going to get you in trouble more than it is worth, and if you make a full house, you often are behind a better full house. I like to play alot of big suited aces AxAx double suited. Two pairs bigger pairs are worth seeing a flop, QQJJ. Another type of good hand is something like 9-10-J-Q double suited. Also, people WILL pay your good hands off, so NEVER slowplay. If you flop a straight on a two flush board, you need to be ready to let it go. Also, if the board pairs, be careful since someone probably filled up. Also, be careful if you trip up using only one of your hole cards and two on board.

Lastly, dont play hands like QQQJ, etc. with trips, or dont play 4 suited cards since you have most of your own outs already.

My favorite omaha high hand is KQJT, Easy to fold if you miss the flop, very easy to flop a monster.
