Went to the local indian B&M casino this sunday and monday to play some 2-4$ fixed. I was hoping my lessons learnt from you guys here at FTR would serve me well and they did indeed . Won about 220$ total in 2 days total 15 hour sessions. Here are a few hands and thoughts.
* on both the days the tables i sat were remarkably passive. rarely any preflop raising going on and if someone raised you can pretty much be sure they have AA, KK, QQ or JJ. people dont raise AK sometimes even or AQ because "they dont win" they say. I have seen so many people limp in with KK and QQ more than ever in my life.
* TPTK is rarely good enough. But when it holds up though, the pot is BIG. because everyone is chasing their draws, and pay you on every street, it pays off.
* When you get raised, its usually set or better. i didnt see too many raising for value (four flush draws, OESD). usually they call and will raise you when they made their hands.
* PATIENCE. Online it feels like a breeze because we multitable and action doesnt seem so far and in between. At one point i was so tired of folding and getting garbage hands, Q9o felt like a monster
-----------------------------
Here are a few hands that won big pots for me. I am going to avoid the losing pots (there were some but i was rarely going to the river with unimproved AK or AQ). most of the time laying it down seeing the flop and without a backdoor draw.
I did luck out on the river in hands 3,5,6 but I feel that i started out with better hands and i need some luck too time to time . Opponents shouldnt be enjoying their rivers all the time
-------------------------------------
Day 2:
1) AKs in UTG.
I raise, 4-5 people call.
Flop: 8-8-10
I bet, everyone folds, one guy calls.
Turn: 8-8-10-10
I bet, he raises, i show him AK and fold. He gives me a surprised look.
I WANNA KNOW what he had . i think he bluffed me out of a pot but didnt wanna pay 8$ to see it.
2) KK in BB
I raise, whole damn table calls.
Flop: A-Q-x.
Same guy to my right bets, I raise, some call, some fold.
Turn: A-Q-x-x.
Checked to me, I bet, 3 calls.
River: A-Q-x-x-x
I check, everyone checks. one person shows me A7
3) AKs diamonds in BB.
4-5 people call, I raise, everyone calls.
Flop: K-7-5 all diamonds.
I bet, everyone calls.
Turn: K-7-5-2 still 3 diamonds.
I bet, everyone calls. No checkraise try or whatever because it probably will get checked around.
River: K-7-5-2-K
I bet, 3 people call.
I win the pot. A lady opposite to the me at the table starts giving me shit how I lucked out at the river. She flopped 2 pair (57) and I rivered out.
I said lamely "I had AK", the dealer joins her saying I rivered out. I wanted to go on to say I had about 14 outs (3 Aces, 2 Kings and 9 diamonds) but i shut up.
4) A-10s clubs in Button.
I raise, 4-5 people call. One old guy to my right complains and makes fun of me having read too many books.
flop: K-Q-10 (K and Q of clubs).
I bet, everyone calls.
Turn: make my flush. bet, everyone calls
River: another flush card bet, everyone calls
On both streets, 2 people said "its a donation but wanna see what you have ". So these days, chasing a card is called "giving donation".
5) AJ in MP. I raise, everyone calls.
flop: A-8-10
a guy to my right bets, I raise, everyone folds except him and another player.
Turn: A-8-10-K
guy to my right bets, I just call (saying whether he hit his set or made his 2 pair because he led out after my raise on flop). other guy also calls.
River: A-8-10-K-A
guy to my right bets, I raise, both call.
guy to my right has K8. other dude has A7. the guy complains how I rivered out and its his bad luck. I wanna say, why the **** would you call with K8o.
6) 88 in LP. I raise. get a few callers.
Flop: 6-8-10
EP bets, rest of table calls, I call (wanting to raise on turn)
Turn: 6-8-10-5
EP bets, a few calls, I raise, he reraises me. I am thinking maybe he has a straight and no 2 pair. but maybe 2 pair which i beat. I just call.
River: 6-8-10-5-5
EP gets cute and says " i bet in the dark" before the river. i raise and he calls. one dude in MP says to EP (both buddies), "show him the straight my man". I smile and show them the full house.
-------------------------------------------
Day 1:
1) Raise in MP with AA everyone calls.
Flop: A-7-10 (only 1 heart)
someone in EP bets, I raise, LP calls.
Turn: A-7-10-4 (2 hearts)
I bet, LP calls.
River: A-7-10-4-x (3 hearts)
I bet, LP raises, I call. Shows me Q-8 of hearts. I say "nice hand" while muttering saying "BITCH" in my mind.
2) KK in MP. I raise everyone calls along with LP
Flop: A-5-J
I bet, LP calls.
Turn: A-5-J-7
I bet, LP calls.
River: A-5-J-7
I check, LP checks shows me an A-x mid kicker.

3) AKs diamonds in BB.
4-5 people call, I raise, everyone calls.
Flop: K-7-5 all diamonds.
That's what I call proof that B&M are rigged, two diamond kings in one deck? *sorry I just had too *

Don't show. Laugh and say "I was just kidding" or "I guess my pocket 2s aren't good *muck* or were they 3s, I forgot, what was the board again?"

The correct answer is "I'm sorry, I always take AK to showdown", or "I suck at this game", or "but I had a pair"

Ask him if he liked the last Harry Potter book. Wasn't it a real drag when Sirius Black died?
Or change the subject to sports booking. "Who likes Detroit to go all the way?"

Remember to say "Thank you" and remind them that you *might* have been bluffing.

"But I had a pair", "I play bad", "I'm sorry", "I'm so lucky, must be the chair"

"I'm so lucky today"
To be brief (thanks go to Mike Caro for this):
Try to be a nice guy to gamble with. Don't look like you're trying too hard, they'll stop paying off just to see. Don't make the fish upset or tilt them, it's bad for us all long term. They're there to have fun, have fun with them (and take their money.)
Create uncertainty. Confuse them in a friendly way. Confused players call. You *might* be bluffing. Don't show hands unless you think it makes them suspect you even more. Make them pay to see, but don't be a prick about it. You can sell them showdown all day if they implicitly know they got to pay to see.
Talk about how lucky you are, the fish respect luck and aren't as likey to take shots at you if they think you're on a "rush."
Try to talk about anything *but* poker. Sports and gambling are great topics. Get people laughing and goofing.

Thanks Fnord.
You rock dude . I will work on those pointers on my next trip .
Yes I definitely have to work on my table image. I wasnt a prick but I was the gloomy doomy serious geeky (with glasses) guy. Too serious in fact. I will try to lighten up and start a conversation.
and one big mistake was striking up a conversation about poker with a guy seated next to me, talking about how everyone was chasing stuff without the odds. I now realise how stupid that was !!
On one hand, I bet he raised, he 3 bet and I capped. 2-3 people stayed in.
Flop was garbage. He bet, I raised and everyone folded, he called.
Turn came a king, He checked and I bet. He mucked it and said "Nice hand man". I didnt even show my cards at that point. He said "I had AQ and I know you had AK". I showed him that. STUPID ME.
I guess confusion is much better and that way people wont take shots at me if the flop is junk. One guy actually said at the table once, "we know what you have, we will know what to do on the flop when its all low cards".
Thats why I raised two hands with 99 and 88. I wouldnt do that all day though . I figured, if the flop was low, I had overpair, and if the flop was high i can bet the flop for sure and not fear getting raised and take it from there. . and if i got my set, sweet !!

Not sunglasses, I hope!
I used to be really bad, now I do ok. At the local B&M I usually draw a comment like "here comes trouble" when I sit down. I just am an intense, competitive kinda geeky guy and it's hard to tone that down. Although in the last truely great B&M game I played in (4/8 spread with a single $2 blind at the Sahara), I did a pretty good job of blending in and looking like I was lucky instead of good. Everyone was chatty, having fun and not playing seriously. Learned all about Nascar. Now that's a great poker game!

Nope, just regular glasses.
a guy came and sat at our table 1st night who had Chris Moneymaker style glasses. Looked absolutely ridiculous. Looked like he was ready to play WSOP. He had a very cute girlfriend though (even hotter than Hypermax's avatar image )
