Okay...2nd or 3rd really... I faced a hand that I wasn't sure about. I think I played it wrong, but I'd like your input:

$1/$2 on Prima. New table - only played a couple hands, so no reads. I've got AJ in CO and it's folded to me. I raise and am reraised by BB. Call and catch an A on the flop. BB bets. What's your play?

The options I see:

call it down. He probably saw my raise as a steal attempt and could easily have a lessor ace.

reraise. You get info about if you're beat or not for 1/2 bet (potentially saving 2). Fold to continued aggression.

Which line do you choose?

Since you have position, I'd call down and bet if checked to. Pop him on the river if he keeps betting. AK/AQ won't 3-bet the river often fearing you caught something better than top pair. KK/QQ/JJ will often call because players with those hands have a hard time not showing them down. Against better players I might raise the turn as they will often check/call the river.

Ooo. Tricky. I like.

I called it down w/o making a river bet. He raised every street and did indeed hold AQ.

Any real chance AQ would fold the river here?

Edit: I think I may like betting the turn even more...better chance to fold him if I'm beat.

Nope. Any plan that involves getting Top Pair or a flush draw to fold is seriously flawed. Particularly in a 1/2 game. A2 shows down here just about every time.

I would reraise for info here while the bets are still small. If he 3-bets me I fold or call looking for a miracle J. If he calls and then bets into me on the turn I fold. If he checks to me I bet, and then I look for a free showdown. Fact is I feel beat here, but like fnord said, there are a few hands that your ahead of that might act strong.

Look for a showdown through expensive streets as cheaply as possible with your positional advantage.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

Raising for info only works against very predictable opponents. J-Random online player isn't that predictable, ESPECIALLY when it comes to small bets on the flop.
