so I have been playing $4-$8 since october 2005. after 2 really good months, i had a sucky december and its still continuing this january so far.
I have played about 91 hours in december of $4-$8 and lost 257$. its up down, up down, mostly down. whatever happened to those days of raking in at least 200$ each nights, consecutive nights. I did take a stab at the higher limit for 8 sessions that had some good returns there and thats why the month of december was a bit up. but my regular $4-$8 game is on a downswing.
i am still playing my tight game. if anything, my reads have gotten better in last 3 months than when i started this limit. I just dont know whats going on. its not that i am losing 5 days in a row. its just that i am not winning more than i am losing.
i just got out of a huge downswing in august. is this another downswing, or i have moved down as a fish and a sucky player

Two possiblilities.
1) You are playing worse.
2) Its varience. You could be playing better or worse or whatever and getting unlucky.
I guess you just have to analyse and post HH to try and figure out which it is

This has probably been posted before, but from my experience and the recent sting of a -125 BB downswing, at least on the variance side, downswings are caused by a convergence of Set over set losses, two outer flush/straight suckouts, FH against Quads, Flush against river FH, AK vs. Ax two pair showdowns, getting outkicked by passive opponents, etc.
However, some of the downswing I could control. For example, looking back on the sessions my table and seat selection was poor (i.e., if there was a coldcaller around I seemed to find him and put him on my left). Also, tilt started to creep in as my mindset changed to trying to make it all up at once, and I was entering pots with suited connectors in bad places trying to hit monsters (SB against a raise, EP). On the other hand, one thing I have been able to prevent is overplaying overcards, which I learned from a prior downswing.
Watch your play. If fish #1 just hit his Gutshot straight on the river HU with no odds, roll your eyes at variance and keep going. If you are limping 4,5s UTG hoping for loose callers or raising A,Ko through the river without good reads, watch yourself.

always great fun those. live getting runnered twice and 2 outed on the river 3 big pots in 20 mins...If your still playing well, make shure your BR is ok and just suffer through the beats
