A bit of a newbie question, but when is it appropriate to bet into a draw like that? When you are one of the first to act? Is the main reason for this to hide the fact that you are drawing? How would you respond to a raise from anyone? Still call but maybe go to check/call after that or still bet/call?

When I have more than my fair share of pot equity and/or if everyone else might fold. I don't really care much about deception.

the funny part is...i've seen people raise like this without the nuts...

the board was paired...someone had a straight, and the other had a queen high flush.

I've been told that with 2nd nut against an unlikely nut with no read on your opponent, you should just call the 6-bet. Also, you should always have money on the table deeper than 12BB in these games.

Anyway, I took 5 seconds or so to double check for the straight flush before I put in the 5th bet.

I have had several 7 bets during live games:

I had the nut flush vs. K high flush.
Nut set and there were no flush or straight draw on the board (believe it or not).
I had quad 8's vs. a boat with pocket KK and 3 8's on the board

I generally stop at 2 raises and just call without the nuts. This may be a bit weak with 2nd nut hands but I have found that most often I am second best if 2 of my raises are reraised.

There's no capping when it's heads up. What site is that?

That's the way the betting works at my local B&M, unlimited number of bets when it's HU. Going all-in in limit hold'em ... gotta love it!

If you can get into a situation where you have a really strong made hand and you're up against a solid second-best it can get quite lucrative. Usually you need to have the stone cold nuts or a VERY confident read that your opponent's hand is 2nd best in order to keep re-raising.

At the B&M, I once hit my nut flush on an unpaired board and was up against a smaller flush. Now, why this guy wanted to keep re-raising me with a baby-flush is beyond me, but he did; until I was all-in. Best of all, I was not short-stacked at the time, he just had slightly more chips than me. Needless to say, after that hand he was very short stacked

I also hit quad 9s on the river with two on board, and two in the pocket once. My opponent had a full boat. Big Pot! Too bad it wasn't quad Ts instead of 9s, otherwise, we would have won the bad-beat jackpot.

It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's pretty sweet!!
