At the B&M last weekend I had the misfortune of sitting between two maniacs. I was in Seat 3, and there was a certifiable maniac in both Seats 2 & 8.
There were constantly raising and re-raising pre-flop and on the flop with complete trash (e.g. 37o etc., bottom pair etc.).
My usual strategy for dealing with one maniac is to seat on his left and 3-bet the hell out of him pre-flop to isolate him and his crappy hands.
Well, that didn't work out so well because his clone in seat 8 kept capping it with garbage. As a result sometimes we'd go to the flop 3 or 4 handed (someone else would often come along for the ride form time to time with a good hand or marginally good hand because of the enticing large pots that were being built).
Anyhow long-story short .... Whether my big hands were hitting or missing didn't seem to matter. One of them would hit two crappy pair or trips on a lucky board etc. My pocket Ks were beat by 47o, and 57o twice within 4 hands. Or, I'd have a really strong draw (e.g. nut flush etc.) that I had to pay and arm and a leg for but would miss.
These guys were burning my chips like there's no tomorrow. It felt like their shitty play was colluding against me to erode my stack. I must have lost 30 to 40 BBs in about 2 hours even though I was trying to stick to my game by playing "proper" poker. I tried to focus on playing tight so that I wouldn't get sucked into their raising wars too often, but I was also getting dealt pretty good cards that just were hitting hard enough to keep me intrested, and/or not holding up.
Does anyone have any tactics/strategies/suggestions/recommendations on how to handle this kind of situation? And, before you say 'move tables', that isn't an option in this place. They have a sattelite /feeder table system with forced moves so you don't really have much flexibility when it comes to game & seat selection.
One last point ... I've been in this situation a number of time in the past and have profitted immensely (the maniacs build big pots with shit cards, you sit back, pick your spots and pick up a few large pots .. presto .. Bob's your uncle!!)., it just so happens this time that I was ending up 2nd best and they burned by chips. It seems to be a win big or lose big scenario ....

i think the key is to avoid getting sandwiched between two aggressive players, whether they are maniacs or TAG's. because in effect, they ARE colluding against you to erode your stack.
fold marginal hands unless one of them is out of the pot. play your premium hands harder because in the long run they WILL hold up and pay off BIG. never fold second pair or better.
and bring lots more bankroll, and aspirin.
